This review is from: Identifying Child Molesters: Preventing Child Sexual Abuse by Recognizing the Patterns of the Offenders (Paperback)
Any parent who reads this book will have more tools to care for their child(ren). Dr. van Dam focuses on adults becoming the first and strongest line of defense against child sexual abuse and proactive for children who report abuse. The information lifts the wool from the wolf in sheep's clothing without cynicism. Readers will become knowledgeable as they learn the surrounding issues and its effects. The information is well organized, written, and researched. Perhaps, its repetive reading but clear from naivete. Most importantly, the guidelines for intervention are revealed.

This is the only book that I have read that has given me insight into the child molester. It is helpful in letting a parent know what warning signs to look for in a person to suggest whether or not they may be a child molester. As a mother of molested children, I have found this book helpful at giving me a better insight about the type of men that do this to children.

After the press told the story of little Carlie Brucia, I believe this book should have been purchased by everyone. This book gives insight and teaches us caution not just for ourselves but for our children. this is a marvelous book.I want to recommend to the reading audience a couple of other books, NNIGHTMARES ECHO, LOST BOY and THE PRIVILEGE OF YOUTH. Please read and learn what can happen to a child right under our noses and also make sure to read Identifying child Molesters..so you will know some of what is needed to protect.

This was a most disappointing book with little substance or new information. It was basically a report of some case studies done with perpetrators who had been incarcerated for sexual abuse.

A must read for parents, teachers and health professionals,
This review is from: Identifying Child Molesters: Preventing Child Sexual Abuse by Recognizing the Patterns of the Offenders (Paperback)
As a mental health professional, I have found both of Dr. Carla van Dam's books, Identifying Child Molesters, and The Socially Skilled Child Molester to contain valuable information in recognizing the red flags in those who molest children. The books distinguish the operating techniques of those who abuse from those who do not. They are valuable in providing adults with information that helps keep kids safe. I recommend the books to parents, teachers, child care providers, health providers and the general public. Most people don't understand the grooming techniques of child pedophiles, and these books provide eye-opening information.Sandra Dixon, PMHCNS-BC, Author of The Invisible Girl: Uncovering Repressed Memories of Childhood Sexual Abuse.

Although the content is difficult to stomach, the author provides insight into the minds of pedophiles. I found the information to be extremely helpful. I'd recommend this book to any parent. I'd like to think that as parents we might be able to stop a predator before he or she abuses a child.

This is a great book to not only be able to identify, but also ways to keep your children safe from child molesters. I have known people like this and they are so savey that most of the time they are above the law. If you are a therapist, parent, teacher or other type of professional who wants to keep your charges safe, this is the book for you. It would be nice if lawenforcement also read this so they can get an idea about how the worst offenders operate and will listen to children and parents when they tell about abuse.Arauna Morgan, MA, MFT |
