Karl K. Barbir is Professor of History at Siena College and is the author of Ottoman Rule in Damascus, 1708–1758. Baki Tezcan is assistant professor of history and religious studies at the University of California, Davis.

More About the Author

Baki Tezcan is from Istanbul. He got his B.A. in International Relations from Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey (1994), and his M.A. and a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from Princeton University (1996, 2001). Since 2002, he has been teaching at the University of California, Davis.

His next book project is tentatively entitled "Imperial Visions: Africans, Americans, Asians, and Europeans in the Early Modern Ottoman World."
