Book Description

Narrative Study of Lives January 2006
In Identity and Story: Creating Self in Narrative, the fourth volume in theseries "The Narrative Study of Lives," Dan P. McAdams, Ruthellen Josselson, and Amia Lieblich bring together an interdisciplinary and international group of creative researchers and theorists to examine the way the stories we tell create our identities. An increasing number of psychologists argue that people living in modern societies give meaning to their lives by constructing and internalizing self-defining stories. The contributors to this volume explore how, beginning in adolescence and young adulthood, our narrative identities become the stories we live by.

Knowledgeably compiled and expertly co-authored by the team of Dan P. McAdams (Professor of Human Development and Social Policy and Director of the Foley Center for the Study of Lives at Northwestern University), Ruthellen Josselson (Professor of Psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem), and Amia Lieblich (Professor of Psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem) Identity And Story: Creating Self In Narrative is an in-depth examination of self-identity and the profound nature by which the human psyche creates and maintains an identity for itself. A seminal contribution to professional and academic library Psychology Studies reference collections, Identity And Story is very highly recommended for its educated understanding and erudite presentation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent new book edited by Dan McAdams, Ruthellen Josselson, and Amia Leiblich, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Identity and Story: Creating Self in Narrative (Narrative Study of Lives) (Hardcover)
This edited book on narrative and story contains many interesting examples of research and ways of analyzing and presenting work using story and life history narratives in different ways for creating greater understanding. As a researcher and a professor, I have found all of the books by these authors useful in my work and good reading as well and recommend them. Many of the contributions and the informants are Israeli.
