I had the old 1st edition and figured I HAD to get the revised one. I was hoping there would be a section on Slavoj Zizek if not expanded reference to his ideology theory - the only one still around! There is no apparent substantive update. Perhaps Eagleton is sore that Zizek stole his hegemony over ideologie kritik. If you have the old edition, this one seems only to have a new and unremarkable preface that basically says, in Eagleton's characteristic style of writing intoned; noxiously excessively 'English': "Thought ideology was dead? ha-HA! It's a "post-9/11" world! I told you so!"
