Glenn Beck Takes On His Idiot Friend--Live, on the Radio

We've all been in those mind-numbing, stomach-churning, sleep-inducing conversations with people whose brains seem to be smaller than their mouths. They're always endlessly long, painfully agonizing and hopelessly futile.

Glenn Beck, host of a nationally syndicated radio program and a television show on Fox News and the #1 bestselling author of Arguing with Idiots, Common Sense, and The Christmas Sweater, finds himself in those debates all the time--and now you can hear how he wins them every time.

As millions of listeners have heard, Glenn's arguments with his Idiot Friend live on the air have provided some of the funniest and most insightful moments on The Glenn Beck Program. Now, in the bestselling tradition of America’s March to Socialism, Glenn collects his most memorable on-air dimwit debates in Idiots Unplugged, an original audio program unavailable in any other format.

Glenn's use of facts and reason to silence his Idiot Friend (played to know-nothing perfection by series regular Pat Gray) has become a popular highlight of his broadcasts. Offering the best of these exchanges, Idiots Unplugged features Glenn's winning arguments on everything from taxes to global warming to education to why Lindsey Graham is a big problem for the Republican party. After listening, you'll never again worry about cocktail parties in Manhattan, date-nights in San Francisco, or sending your daughter off to Berkeley for college.

A collection of radio segments that are both timely and classic, Idiots Unplugged is a reminder of why no other broadcaster makes the truth as convincing and entertaining as Glenn Beck.

About the Author

GLENN BECK is a nationally syndicated radio host, founder of GBTV, and the author of nine national bestselling books, seven of which reached the #1 position on the New York Times list: The Original Argument; Arguing with Idiots; Glenn Beck’s Common Sense; An Inconvenient Book; the novels The Overton Window and The Christmas Sweater; and the children’s book, The Christmas Sweater: A Picture Book. His new holiday novel, The Snow Angel, is available in hardcover from Threshold Editions. Visit www.glennbeck.com.

From AudioFile

In these collected segments from conservative Glenn Beck's radio program, a stereotypical Idiot character makes a statement and is then rebuffed with what Beck presents as facts. More comedic than his previous works, the pieces aired live, and there's little in the way of audible post-production. Beck exudes confidence in every syllable, and his supporting cast is lively and agreeably over-the-top. In particular, Pat Gray plays the whiny Idiot to the hilt, supporting his arguments with screeching ad hominem. Only the theme tune strikes a false note; while humorous and catchy, it's included before and after every single segment. It quickly becomes tiresome. There are no subject headings, so navigation without a track list can be tricky. A.Z.W. © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars for entertainment., February 4, 2010
This review is from: Idiots Unplugged (Audio CD)
Yes, Glenn is a comedian, and he's very good at knocking down the liberal straw men his idiot friend sets up for him with humor and facts.

Actual liberal arguments are usually a tiny bit more nuanced, though not much. Sometimes they actually have a point, though they then proceed to make an argument that shows their priorities are usually way out of whack.

But the absolute best part of this was when we were going to Philly for a concert, and my wife's (Obamabot) sister-in-law and brother decided they just had to ride with us instead of driving their own car.

We're in the front seat laughing and from the dead silence of the back seat you could almost see steam wafting forward. I don't know which was funnier between the audio and the reaction of those two dweebs.

It's fun to both have post-doc studies under our belts and have our liberal relatives try to pull their 'intellectual superiority' act with us.

We usually just play along and let them think their deep thoughts have never occurred to us before, when we both have mulled their 'solutions' and dismissed them because of unacceptable unintended consequences.

I'm convinced your average liberal is more motivated by his heart than his head, and advocating huge spending policies that will wreck this nation makes his heart feel good, so when you point out the bad consequences it makes his head hurt and he changes the subject.

That's usually how it works. It was sure that way when they used to argue about 'well, Bush did thus and such,' and my wife would say, 'and we conservatives were mortified and argued against it.'

So how does the fact that the GOP averaged yearly deficits of a shocking, bank-busting $104 billion dollars during their time in the majority make it okay for the Dems, now in power, to average $1.1 TRILLION deficits annually during their time in the majority, then point to Bush as if he voted those budgets in the House so the deficit explosion is somehow his fault? We're talking about a deficit increase of A THOUSAND PERCENT since the Dems took over the Congress compared to when the GOP was running the place, and they still try to blame Bush.

News flash: Congress controls the purse strings. Bush could have vetoed those budgets, I guess, but the Dems in Congress would just have passed them over his vetoes.

It is our debt, our deficits and the corresponding need for crushing taxes in the middle of economic armageddon that is driving unemployment now, along with the uncertainty of 'what business rule is Obama going to change next?'

You can't make plans when the rules are constantly changing, so you don't hire.

My parents both voted for Obama.

They both tell me, if they'd known then what they know now, they would have voted McCain, though they dislike the man. I think that is probably the case with millions of independents not only in Massachusetts but all over the country.

Note to Democrats: if you want to turn the United States into Venezuela, you must first overturn the law that says we have elections every two years. Then you can do whatever you want.

But try to turn the USA into a Socialist Workers Paradise like Cuba or the old Soviet Union without taking the voters' rights away first, and you're gonna get beaten like a rented mule come election day.

We the People have caught on to your radical schtick.

I purchased Idiots unplugged (on cd) for a very long car ride thru the night thinking Glen would keep me awake! I kept wondering if I purchased the right cd.... this is just a big commercial for his following book, Arguing with Idiots. Please do not get me wrong, I love Glen Beck, but this was a waste of money. Wish I had just purchased Arguing with Idiots! Truthfully, I never finished the cd, maybe the FIRST HOUR was just a commercial!
