4.0 out of 5 stars Melancholy Death Metal from America, April 14, 2006
This review is from: Idle (Audio CD)
Hailing from the bleak forests of Scandinavia...sorry, North Carolina, Daylight Dies unleashes a cold slab of melancholy death metal with their debut EP Idle. The three songs on this album (plus two piano interludes) are very reminiscent of early Katatonia or a more up-tempo My Dying Bride - tormented vocals over melancholy melodies and a delightfully bleak atmosphere. It's the kind of metal, which, to be honest, you just don't expect to hear played this well by an American band (OK, November's Doom can also pull it off).

Daylight Dies has since received some much deserved recognition for their later work on Relapse Records, but this Tribunal EP is where they started and is worth seeking out if you're into the band or this style of metal. It's out of print now, so if you find a copy, you'd better grab it.
