PRAISE FOR JENNIFER WILLIS AND VALHALLA

THE NEXT MARION ZIMMER BRADLEY
". . . Character development and delivery of the tension and action keep the pages turning. Definitely in the cannot-put-down category. ... We might be seeing the next Marion Zimmer Bradley. Except Willis is much funnier."
-- Roxanne Hawn, "Mountain Book Worm" and freelance writer

A MUST-READ IF YOU ENJOY MYTHOLOGY, STRONG CHARACTERS, HUMOR AND ACTION
"I commend Ms. Willis on her ability to combine battle scenes and softer sides with humor and reality. ... The characters are memorable, a key to a great read. I fell in love ... and my heart broke. ... Well-written and expertly crafted, Valhalla is a must-read if you enjoy mythology, strong characters, humor, and action."
--Tia Silverthorne Bach, co-author of "Depression Cookies" and "Mom in Love with Fiction" blogger

A MAGICAL AND BEWITCHING BREW
"Seriously great fun! Hugely entertaining ... Perfect for the YA market, for those who grew up on Harry Potter and are now hungry for something a little different, but equally compelling and magical. ... Exceptional, fluent and engaging. ... [Willis] weaves a fantasy world that really fires the imagination and makes the impossible seem believable. I haven't had such fun reading for ages"
-- Joanna Simm, The Bookworm Blog

More About the Author

On the fiction side, I write kooky stuff -- frustrated witches, vampires, old gods having to get jobs as photocopier repairmen. It's simply my nature. Apparently, my work is in that popular YA/mainstream crossover category inside the urban fantasy genre, which is really just a happy accident.

I'm a native Virginian living in Oregon, and my fiction is frequently set in one of these locales.

As a freelance journalist and essayist, I specialize in sustainability, religion/spirituality, health, history, and living. I've written for The Oregonian, The Christian Science Monitor, Salon.com, The Portland Tribune, The Writer, Ancestry Magazine, The Lund Report, The Jewish Review, Skirt!, Heeb, InterfaithFamily.com, Aish.com, HGTV's FrontDoor.com, Spirituality & Health, Vegetarian Times, and other online and print publications at home and across the globe.

Oh, and I really like dogs. And trees. And bellydancing.

Iduna's Apples takes you on a whirlwind journey through Norse legends -- both known and unknown. New relationships, new dynamics, and new foes populate this funny, heart-pounding adventure with the heroes we met in Valhalla (Book 1). I could NOT wait for Book 2 to be released. It does NOT disappoint. How soon will Book 3 be ready?

Jennifer Willis' sequel is a great read. Here, as in her previous work, she managed to engage the reader in a fantastic story from the beginning. Much like her first book where Sally, a seemingly lesser character, rose to importance, Maggie comes to the fore here, but her presence does not overshadow the book. The old cast, Odin's lodge, including Loki, make their usual appearance, and we get to meet the frost giants and Iduna.

I find the story quite engaging. The plot is complex enough to keep the reader well-entertained, the introduction of the new characters and the development of the previously introduced ones are done masterfully. This story can stand on its own, but readers of Valhalla would be pleased to see another look of some of their favourite characters. I am a huge fan of Thor and I loved seeing him again here, and all the other Norse characters. Though Odin and Frigga took a back seat here, Thor, Heimdall, Saga, Freya and Freyr, and Sally shone, saving the world once again, this time from devils.

I did not at all regret buying this book. My only "complaint" is that I have no more adventures of the Norse pantheon to read, as penned by Ms Willis. What happens now with Maggie? Does Sally's magic keep improving? Will Loki ever find his son? So many questions!!!!

I was unable to put 'Iduna's Apples' down once I began reading this book. I love the characters and the story just grabbed me from the start. The connection between the ancient world of Viking Gods and modern situations is wonderful and very entertaining. I highly recommend reading this book and can't wait for the next book in the series.

I enjoyed Valhalla, the first book in Jennifer Willis's series about the Norse gods living (and dating, and working) in the Pacific Northwest. It was a good idea well executed, with appealing characters and a nice balance of dread and wit. The author has clearly done a ton of research into Norse mythology. More important, she has thought about the subject, adding ideas of her own and finding novel ways to employ the mythic elements--giving old stories and characters a lot of fresh new twists. The original and (mostly) human characters she throws into the mix are well done, too.

I liked the second volume in the series, Iduna's Apples, even more. It made me anxious for the characters, it made me laugh, and it made me admire the imagination and skill of an author who can stage a colossal battle to the death between gods and devils in the most unlikely--yet strangely appropriate--of settings. In Iduna's Apples we continue to share the journey of Sally, a mortal teenager who, in the first book, discovered her destiny and her relationship with the old gods. We also get to know Maggie, a mortal woman with a destiny of her own to meet.

As much as I love Chris Hemsworth's Thor (and I really do), Willis's novels introduce us to a different take on the Norse pantheon, one delivered with suspense, humor, and inventiveness. I'm looking forward to the next book, and beyond.

Disclosure: I know the author, although I met her only recently, after the publication of Valhalla and Iduna's Apples.

This sequel to "Valhalla" was not as zany as the first book but just as good. I can't wait to find out what is in store for Odin's Lodge and the the Moon Witch in the next installment... so PLEASE let there be a third book!
