5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful!, March 19, 2006

This review is from: If the Buddha Got Stuck: A Handbook for Change on a Spiritual Path (Paperback)
This book is simply fantastic! Kasl skillfully demonstrates how following the core concepts of Buddhist philosophy can help us tackle the issues that arise in everyday life. By using herself and her patients as examples, she makes Buddhism accessible to all, and provides a road map to living a more complete life. She does all of this with a writing style that makes reading this book a pleasure. This is one of the few books that I will read more than once.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helping Friends Career Network recommended reading list!!, July 27, 2006
This review is from: If the Buddha Got Stuck: A Handbook for Change on a Spiritual Path (Paperback)
I am recommending this book as a refreshing read for career seekers who feel stuck in trying to figure out what is next in a difficult environment of layoffs and reductions in force. There is a calm in identifying where you really are, why you have such attachments, and being able to see you really are only as stuck as you let yourself be. [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars A gem of a book that everyone should read, January 30, 2007
This review is from: If the Buddha Got Stuck: A Handbook for Change on a Spiritual Path (Paperback)
Absolutely wonderful book that gives do-ale suggestions for unsticking all the places your life is in a rut. Kasl is a psychotherapist in addition to practicing buddhism. Her advice is well thought out and clearly presented. I found myself digging deep within myself and my motivations. It may be a little "fluffy", but I strongly feel most people who benefit from this book. I know I was able to make some positive changes. Highly recommend.

Infact I found radical acceptance so much more useful and new. this book recycles most of what you already know, like make space and be open to change. there is too many sub headings and she tries to cram too much information into the book, making it confusing and boring. i personally did not find the book useful and wish I hadn't got it.

This review is from: If the Buddha Got Stuck: A Handbook for Change on a Spiritual Path (Paperback)
Change is not a joy for most people. It doesn't happen fast, it's something that requires time, patience and effort. Three strikes against facing change right there. This book tackles change from the Buddhist perspective. You don't have to know a thing about Buddhism or be religious to benefit from the book.

The book goes right to the heart of what makes change hard--we benefit in some way from the way we are doing things now. That's where it starts. The chapters are short, there are tips and exercises for each step along the way.

You can just read and move on, or you can do the exercises and discover you have a lot more strength and energy than you thought you did.

The book is broken into steps--Notice Where You Are Stuck, Show Up, Pay Attention, Live in Reality, Connect With Others, Move from Thought to Action, Let Go. Exercises all along the way make you feel like you are doing something for yourself. Because you are.

As someone barely familiar with Buddhist tenets, but very interested, this book was no over my head. In fact the author takes the basic principles and applies them to both a spiritual and psychological approach. I read this book with tremendous enthusiasm and feel I have begun a change I will carry forward with me. I look forward to reading this author's other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT, October 11, 2008

This review is from: If the Buddha Got Stuck: A Handbook for Change on a Spiritual Path (Paperback)
This product is excellent. Not only did the seller send me a MINT item, it is a superb book, with excellent references, and wonderful way of speaking in a manner which is not intimidating. It is easy to understand, reads very easily, and can be read in a short time. If you'd like a quick introduction to helping yourself through life in a manner which the Buddha himself would have approved this is the book for you. It should help you become unstuck in your issues, becoming happier. Becoming mindful and discovering just what that is, is a key issue in the book...and it might not be what you think if you have never been exposed to it. I must say that reading this book will not make you change your religion. It will only help you become more relaxed, more focused, and, well, happier. Because, contrary to popular belief, Buddhism is NOT a religion. It is a learning experience, and a way of being. A way of seeing, a way of living. Try this book.

Charlotte Kasl writing has always been is one of the most brilliant around. Practical, straightforward, useful to issues that we all face in life. If you have even half a brain you will find out where you are stuck, get in our in our world, and then do something you've never done before, (hopefully to help others or the environment) and then grow.
