Hades, like Death Angel and Metallica was a band that transcended the more moronic elements of thrash and speed metal (the one-dimensional blast beat and gang vocals, etc.). As such, 1988's IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED is more of a well-rounded metal album than thrash or speed, much like Helstar's NOSFERATU, Death Angel's ACT III, Death's SYMBOLIC and Metallica's RIDE THE LIGHTNING. More modern examples would include Meliah Rage's THE DEEP AND DREAMLESS SLEEP and Forbidden's excellent OMEGA WAVE.
Like those six albums, IF AT FIRST YOU DON"T SUCCEED is great from beginning to end. There's not one bad song. They're all of top quality. As such, it's useless to cite favorite tracks.
What's sad is that only one of the six bands listed went on to great financial success. All the others remain working class musicians to this day (except DEATH due to Chuck's passing, RIP). You'll notice that I said "financial success," as there are other kinds of success. True success for a musician is that their songs live on for decades or even centuries. The material on IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED is genius and it continues to live on in the hearts of those who know it.
