A Straightforward Simple Alternative to Dieting That Works, October 17, 2002
This review is from: If Not Dieting Then What? (Paperback)
An excellent book which provides a simple and straight-forward, yet sympathetic guide to healthy eating and weight management
without dieting. Dr. Kausman's many years of experience in this area are evident in his writing. He offers the reader evidence for
why diets don't work, but then ensures that the reader is provided with useful & sensible strategies to replace dieting. Dr.
Kausman's discussions of non-hungry eating, intuitive eating & eating with awareness make lots of sense & he provides the
reader with lots of activities and worksheets to help apply his ideas. If not dieting, then what? is a great read, it makes great sense
& the strategies really do work. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with dieting or their weight, or simply
needs some renewed motivation. You'll love the shared stories too!

supportive and fair, February 4, 2011
I found this book to be a very sensible and supportive reference for those struggling with food and weight issues. It did not harshly advocate any plan or agenda; rather, it gently lead me to consider the "better way" to manage my food choices and my inner voice. I learned to be fair to myself, to realize that this is not a black and white issue, that all eaters are unique and have vastly different eating preferences and needs, and that I am on a jouurney to discover my own needs and wants. I particularly liked the way that the author did not condemn those valid desires we have to improve our appearance and our physical health.

How to stop the diet yoyo and be normal, November 1, 2009
If Not Dieting Then What?I have a compulsive addictive personality and have yoyo dieted for 50 years. I lost 6 stone then gradually over 20 years put most of it back on. Recently I have lost 17 Kg but put 5 kg back on doing weights at gym. I sought my doctors help and he recommended a local psychologist and dietician which I then attended in my local community centre and they both recommended this book. On their recommendation I have stopped weighing myself and resigned from the local TOWN (take off weight naturally) club after 2 years. My psychologist said that while I was obsessing about getting weighed every week and obsessing about "good and bad" food I would never come to terms with my overeating (which I mostly do in response to emotional issues). Also that I would never experience normal eating. They were both right and for the past three months I eat what I want when I want and have remained the same weight over this period of time. (I weighed myself so I could pass this on to you). I want to lose about another 15Kg but if it happens Good - if it does not that is OK too as my body is telling me what weight I need to be at present. I feel free of the oppression of dieting and have never been so content and happy inside. I feel I deal with emotional issues better than ever before.
I attend gym twice a week, do water aerobics once a week and play lawn bowls at least twice a week. I am 69 and retired 2 years ago.
