The Turner House
The Turners have lived in the same house for over 50 years—a remarkable feat considering the house is in the embattled city of Detroit, surrounded by vacant lots and worth just a tenth of its mortgage. Find out what happens to the house and the offspring brought up in it

Book Description

George and Susan Reed have lived a quiet life. But it has also been a life of quiet resentment, a life spent tolerating minor slights and annoyances. Those resentments finally catch up with them when George decides to assert himself and lead the life he wants to live, free of his wife’s judgement and disapproval. This is a short story of approximately 3,000 words/12 pages. It can also be found in Inner Lives: Three Short Stories and the collection Short Stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Written Short Story February 25, 2012
By Craig
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the story. It was well written and held my interest making for a very quick read. Though the beginning started a little slow for my taste, Mr. Rose picked up the pace nicely and drew me in. I finished the story in one sitting and looked for more books by Mr. Rose. I have a new author to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marriage & Resentment May 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I first read this story in the collection "Inner Lives." "If I Profane with My Unworthiest Hand" is a good look at the "inner life" of what appears to be a happy couple. This is the story of George & Susan, who seem like a happily married couple. However, years of stifling their feelings has led to resentment. Wait until you see what George has hidden in the basement! This is a fantastic short. Michael K. Rose develops two characters so vividly in 3000 words, and that takes a true story teller. Hats off to Mr. Rose for entertaining me once again!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Short, Pleasurable Read May 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Reminiscent of some of the more obscure Ray Bradbury shorts, "If I Profane with My Unworthiest Hand" is a thought-provoking, well-written and sad story. Rose answers the question "does love conquer all?" in a way that's not what you might expect.
