Nice and relaxing,

Somi has an excellent voice and style. I would have given five stars if there was a bit more edge to the music that would have taken it to the next level.

Amazing Live,

I went to a free showing of her concert here in Seattle at the Jazz Alley earlier this week. After seeing her perform, I was blown away. She has a wide range of vocals and her voice carries beyond the mountains. She's my new favorite. Soulful music similar to Sade.

Better than the new Sade,
This review is from: If the Rains Come First (Audio CD)
This cd is better than "Soldier of Love," the new cd from Sade. Similiar vocals, but a much better result. Somi's cd reminds me of the old Sade with numerous slow yet soulful songs mixed in with a few up-beat funky tracks. There is nothing uninspired or melancholy about this cd, unlike with "Soldier of Love". If you enjoy Adriana Evans, Brigette McWilliams, Sibongile Khumalo, or the old Sade (especially "Promise"), then you will love this cd by Somi.

Best Young Singer/Songwriter In Decades,

"If The Rains Come First" is the best singer/songwriter album I've heard in decades. The lyrics and music is original, varies and is well performed. Somi reminds me some of Sarah Vaughn but is mostly her own creation. Some songs are a rich mix of American jazz and African music. Other songs are Somi boldly singing with very little accompaniment. Somi sings in English and other languages. The non-English language is very pleasant to the ear. "Be Careful, Be Kind" would have been a big radio hit in the old days. "Enganjyani" (feat. Hugh Masekela) is original and amazing.
This album will be listened too for decades to come.

Although she sounds a lot like Sade, Somi has a great future in music. I did not know of her at all until a co-worker introduced me to her. Feel that this CD could also be played during light exercise or during a Reiki treatment.
