They're unoriginal, but who cares?,

This review is from: If They Move Kill Them (Audio CD)
After I attacked Starting Line for being a copy of NFG, You'd problay expect me to bash Fairweather for being a copy of Saves the Day. However, I won't. Why? because on this disc, Fairweather proves they are a talented band, mixing many different styles and creating a flowing melodic pace through the cd. Starting Line had a formula, but they did little to expand it, they are a good band though. Anyway, back to Fairweather. Thier debut cd, "If They Move...Kill Them" is a good listen for fans of the emo-punk genre. They aren't too heavy, but they aren't too light. I can't really explain it. If you take STD's "Through Being Cool" and "Can't Slow Down", put them into a blender, and smooth it out, you'll get a good picture of how this cd sounds. In this short disc, the cd has many different song styles on it, that it'll keep your attention through listen after listen. It starts off with the title track "If They Move..Kill Them" which keeps a medium pace and a steady flow. The next track, "Soundtrack to the Ride" speeds up the pace, but still keeps it flowing and smooth. The cd continues it's pace with different types of slow and fast songs. It keeps a slow, emo like melody with "South Street, 1 am" and "Next Day Flight", while it goes with some fast pop-punk melodies with "Casting Curses" and "Motion Sickness". It ends the cd on "Welcome to Last Year" which is a nicely tuned emo-acoustic track. The guitar and basslines are smooth and well written, without being sloppy. The vocalist however, is lyrically interchangeable with Chris Conoley from Saves the Day. This is a little bit of a problem because when I started listening to them, I couldn't tell if they were Saves the Day or not. However, upon further listening, I could easily tell they had their own unique songwriting abilities. The lyrics are pretty good too, instead of being all about falling for a girl, they are creative and pretty well written. Good Job. So, even if they are a bit unoriginal, Fairweather creates a unique emo-punk experiance that will keep many fans of the genre listening. While not as amazing as Junction 18, they have the talent and songwriting ability to become a big pop punk band and the next Saves the Day.

Fairweather - If They Move...Kill Them,
By Nate Freese (Caldwell, Idaho) - See all my reviews

Powerful, angsty, and precise. An emo/rock album chock full of youthful exuberance and a surprising dose of cynicism. I would highly recommend Fairweather's debut full length for fans of poignant, lyrical messages combined with intricate guitar structures and climactic hooks. A few of the band's tracks fall flat on their face; however, the good far outweighs the unlistenable on this effort. Check out "If They Move...Kill Them," and "Let's Hear it For Dartanian." 4/5

most of the new emo/hardcore cd's have been watered down and the bands have not stayed true to themselves but the first time i heard this album i knew these guys knew what they were doing. Too bad they broke up. Well whenever you have the chance and the money go ahead and buy this album, you won't regret it. Its the perfect combination of powerful, solid rock with melody and great lyrics...love it!!
