They're unoriginal, but who cares?,

After I attacked Starting Line for being a copy of NFG, You'd problay expect me to bash Fairweather for being a copy of Saves the Day. However, I won't. Why? because on this disc, Fairweather proves they are a talented band, mixing many different styles and creating a flowing melodic pace through the cd. Starting Line had a formula, but they did little to expand it, they are a good band though. Anyway, back to Fairweather. Thier debut cd, "If They Move...Kill Them" is a good listen for fans of the emo-punk genre. They aren't too heavy, but they aren't too light. I can't really explain it. If you take STD's "Through Being Cool" and "Can't Slow Down", put them into a blender, and smooth it out, you'll get a good picture of how this cd sounds. In this short disc, the cd has many different song styles on it, that it'll keep your attention through listen after listen. It starts off with the title track "If They Move..Kill Them" which keeps a medium pace and a steady flow. The next track, "Soundtrack to the Ride" speeds up the pace, but still keeps it flowing and smooth. The cd continues it's pace with different types of slow and fast songs. It keeps a slow, emo like melody with "South Street, 1 am" and "Next Day Flight", while it goes with some fast pop-punk melodies with "Casting Curses" and "Motion Sickness". It ends the cd on "Welcome to Last Year" which is a nicely tuned emo-acoustic track. The guitar and basslines are smooth and well written, without being sloppy. The vocalist however, is lyrically interchangeable with Chris Conoley from Saves the Day. This is a little bit of a problem because when I started listening to them, I couldn't tell if they were Saves the Day or not. However, upon further listening, I could easily tell they had their own unique songwriting abilities. The lyrics are pretty good too, instead of being all about falling for a girl, they are creative and pretty well written. Good Job. So, even if they are a bit unoriginal, Fairweather creates a unique emo-punk experiance that will keep many fans of the genre listening. While not as amazing as Junction 18, they have the talent and songwriting ability to become a big pop punk band and the next Saves the Day.

Fairweather - If They Move...Kill Them,
By Nate Freese (Caldwell, Idaho) - See all my reviews

Powerful, angsty, and precise. An emo/rock album chock full of youthful exuberance and a surprising dose of cynicism. I would highly recommend Fairweather's debut full length for fans of poignant, lyrical messages combined with intricate guitar structures and climactic hooks. A few of the band's tracks fall flat on their face; however, the good far outweighs the unlistenable on this effort. Check out "If They Move...Kill Them," and "Let's Hear it For Dartanian." 4/5

most of the new emo/hardcore cd's have been watered down and the bands have not stayed true to themselves but the first time i heard this album i knew these guys knew what they were doing. Too bad they broke up. Well whenever you have the chance and the money go ahead and buy this album, you won't regret it. Its the perfect combination of powerful, solid rock with melody and great lyrics...love it!!

Yeah a lot of people have been saying stuff like it sounds the same as anything else, and at first listening it kind of does, but to me it really doesn't. The beats and guitar playing are what makes it different. On the first song, the title song it sound the same and then the vocals come in and the guitar player does this freaky thing that makes it sound way different. I think the 7th song, Whatever it Takes has some good lyrics, as all the songs do, and many are really heartfelt words and music that can speak to you or not. Hey maybe I'm crazy, but this CD is definately worth a shot.

I enjoyed this from the first time I listened to the CD. Excellent vocals and guitar riffs. Well produced and a nice variety of songs. Also totally excellent to see these guys live. They are touring for the new CD, Lusitania... which is due out in July. Have heard a pre-release of the new CD and it is really good. I highly recommend "If They Move.. Kill Them" and the other Fairweather CDs (Alaska and Lusitania).

Well worth your money.,

I don't know where these guys came from, but I heard about them and picked up the CD on a whim. I'm pretty glad that I did so. Generally, I don't like to comment on other's reviews, but the accusations that they are a Saves the Day rip-off couldn't be farther from the truth. Two completely different styles. Fairweather rips and tears through ten songs of heart felt punk/emo. The guitar riffs are searing, the beats are complex, and the vocals are unmistakable. If you are into this scene, "If they Move Kill Them" is well worth your time.

My New Favorite Band,
By Scott G Freedman (Bethlehem, PA) - See all my reviews

A friend of mine introduced me to fairweather a couple months ago, and instantly I became addicted to listening to their music. At that time they had only released a sampler album of six songs two of which are on this album (Whatever it Takes and If they Move.) I get psyched up when I listen to their music. They definitely have the potential to make it in being a big emo-alternative band. Almost every song works up and up in emotion and excitement until it peaks and makes your hair stand up on end. Not only is the music great, but I emailed the guys about my feelings and they wrote back within a couple days with an appreciation letter. If you like the Get Up Kids, Hum, Glassjaw, and even Blink 182, I strongly recommend you get this CD.

This is a band, you just HAVE TO LISTEN TO!=) It becomes completely addicting after you've been listening to it a while"If They Move...Kill Them"-Has very good lyrics, great melody, and you have the tendency to jump to it.3rd best track on CD in my opinion! "Southstreet, 1 AM"-I Love the riffs in this song! They rock!!!=) The chorus is really cool too, and the song surprises and comes back at ya again right when you think its over. 2nd best track on the CD, and will probably be most of your favorites. "Motion Sickness"-This is the best song on this album! This is such a good CD for a debut album. The verses are all good (especially the last one) and chorus is really good. You'll LOVE this song.=) |
