This young lady with the amazing pipes is holding back in a lot of these songs, to try to fit into the hip hop vocal mold. She does an okay job in these fairly run of the mill songs, but occasionally her true, phenomenal voice shines through. The album sounds overproduced, too much background and foreground reverb, too much "canned" accompaniment and too many voices echoing around her. Why drown her out? But when its just Jennifer and a bit of thoughtful accompaniment, sit back and let her beautiful sound wrap its lovin' arms around you!

I think Jennifer Hudson has a beautiful voice. Sometimes a bit high and too screechy but I can deal with that just to be able to listen to her. She is beautiful and her voice is that of a dozen angels. Thank you so much Jennifer for persuing your career and belssing the world with your talent.

There is no question about the trauma and tragedy that Jennifer Hudson has gone through the past year. After losing her family from the heartbreaking onslaught of murders, she has showed that she has the strength to go further on with her career and prove she can still sing on stage. That was shown well on her performances with the Super Bowl and recently with Oprah. But her latest song If This Isn't Love, the second single from her self-titled debut record isn't really as driven heart and soul in the way that she knocked it out of the park with Spotlight last year. I do hope that Jennifer can come with better songs than this one though. She has a lot to prove heart and soul, and I just hope she can do it.
