Alan Gaff is a tireless researcher and it truly comes through in this work. He thoroughly covers the circumstances surrounding and the events during the recruitment of the 2nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, through the aftermath of their first traumatic battle at Bull Run, where they were fired on by both sides because of their grey uniforms.
Gaff primarily draws from primary sources and weaves an excellent tale.
