Bobby Darin was the US born crooner and folk rock singer who sang classic tunes including “Mack the Knife” and “Splish Splash”.

Darin was a gifted musician and was a multi-instrumentalist as a youth. Determined to pursue a career in music, he left college and became a night club singer. 5.0 out of 5 stars The other side of Bobby Darin, August 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: If I Were a Carpenter / Inside Out (Audio CD)
Fans of Bobby Darin's "cocktail lounge" sides will be estranged from these two albums. Recorded on Atlantic in 1966, Darin did a 180 and lowered his range to that of a folkie. His voice takes on a singer/songwriter subtlety that is immensely moving. What is most surprising is how well this change works! Wonderful interpretations of popular folk tunes of the time make this a special set. Contains bonus tracks. Recommended for those Darin fans longing for a change of pace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bobby as you've never heard him, September 7, 2000
This review is from: If I Were a Carpenter / Inside Out (Audio CD)
I didn't even know I was a fan of Bobby Darin until I heard this CD. This CD contains the full contents of his 1966 album, "If I Were a Carpenter" and his 1967 album, "Inside Out." Five outtakes are also included. During this time period Bobby's music sounded more like folk than his previous, more popular material. The recordings included here are in stereo, and according to some listeners, the stereo versions don't sound as good as the mono ones. I have heard both, and I actually prefer the stereo.

Bobby covers a diverse group of writers such as Tim Hardin ("Reason To Believe," "Black Sheep Boy," etc), Buffy Sainte-Marie ("Until It's Time For You To Go"), Bonner and Gordon ("Lady Fingers," "Me About You"), John Sebastian ("Lovin You," etc), and even John Denver ("For Baby," penned under his real name)! Bobby also wrote some gems himself, such as the beautiful "Amy," and the gritty, Johnny Riversesque, "My Baby Needs Me."

Overall this is an excellent package. The price here at amazon.com is inexpensive for 27 songs, all which are very good. Try it and discover a Bobby Darin you never knew...

5.0 out of 5 stars soul wrenching singing, February 3, 2008
This review is from: If I Were a Carpenter / Inside Out (Audio CD)
I would never have considered Bobby Darin for my musical library. Mac the Knife is SO lounge singer it's kitzch. I somehow accidentally found this album on various searches for folk songs. I took a double take. Bobby Darin? THAT Bobby Darin? Soulful? YES, really! His version of If I Were a Carpenter is at the peak of my favorite songs and I have a truly diverse taste in music. It's one song I can play again and again and want each time not to be interrupted because it is so emotional. It can bring tears to your eyes. Get this album and you won't be sorry.
