This review is from: If It Weren't For Polka Music, I'd Go Crazy (Audio CD)
This is the only Ziwich CD I have seen that is not "thematic" -- a tribute to X or Y, or the world's best-known polkas or waltzes, etc. It is simply a collection of numbers the artist felt like recording. Because it consists of his own choices, he really gets into it and pulls out all the stops. Would he play Cleveland style (string bass) or German (tuba)? The answer: whichever he feels like! The style varies all over the map. There are polkas, waltzes, even a jazz number. Not the kind of jazz that makes us "real" music lovers ask "Where's one?" (the first beat of the measure) and "where's DO?" (the base tone of the scale), but something that sounds good and that we can understand. It's all great. Fred Ziwich has outdone himself here.
