I love this album. I will reccomend this album over ALL other Oscar Peterson albums that I have heard. I have MANY. This album exemplifies (to me) a time when Oscar, Joe, and Niles were at their very best. Just jammin the hell out of some great tunes. TRUST ME!!! You will be amazed at the speed and accuracy Oscar delivers in this one (Joe and Niles too). This is the album that turned me on to Oscar Peterson. Be enlightened and choose "If You could see me now"

5.0 out of 5 stars Focused and Musical, February 26, 2006
This review is from: If You Could See Me Now (Audio CD)
Oscar Peterson is, no doubt, one of the best pianists jazz music has ever seen. It's no suprise that "If You Could See Me Now" is one of the most enjoyable recordings, to date, by his quartet. Every tune on this recording is approached from such a deep musical perspective that it communicates the passion each musician carried into the session. Martin Drew is a very supportive drummer. He accompanies each soloist with extreme care. His dynamics are always fitting to the moment of each piece. Joe Pass is the only guitarist who could keep up with Oscar Peterson's facility and harmonic intricacy. And his solo's are very profound, with musical direction. Especially on the delicate track, "If You Could See Me Now". Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen supplies the lower harmonic support of the group. His tone, warm, round, and wood-like, engulf each tune with a sonic hue that is unmatched by any other bassist. And Ray Brown, although an important member of Oscar Peterson's former trio's and quartets, could never quite achieve the splendor of NHOP's savory sound. His solos are, technically and musically, above and beyond with an ability to create musical lines and melodies that mimicked a horn player or a pianist while keeping the interest of the listener. NHOP's bass lines were also foundational and forward moving, supplying a perpetual time that never waivered. This is an amazing session and should be owned on vinyl.
