5.0 out of 5 stars Reflective, Playful, Intimate Psychedelic Pop...., October 29, 2003
This review is from: If You Happy With, You Need Do Nothing (Audio CD)
Although released in 2001, this appears to be a `Discoutinued' album, which is an huge shame as this is an album of unprecedented beauty, encompassing, Guitar-Pop/Pop-Psychedelia & a little alt.Country...(similar comparisons would be "Baldy Drawn Boy/The Beta Band/The Flaming lips/Mercury Rev" and most definitely closest to "Kings of Convenience" in overall sound/Vocals), with some outstanding slide guitar / Cello work that provides ample space for singer `Lee Gorton' to lay down some wholly intimate (and at times breathtakingly beautiful) vocals....opener track "Bookends" is a lesson in how to perform brilliant folky-rock, and the mostly instrumental "James's Dream" aptly shows how to hold the listeners attention before bursting into vocals ¾ of the way into the track.....it's entirely likely the band "Alfie" will remain a niche act, that captivates whomever listens to them, but the sheer hands down masterpiece of this album, really demands a much bigger audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Get It, January 4, 2002
This review is from: If You Happy With, You Need Do Nothing (Audio CD)
Manchester has set itself apart as of late by bragging so loud and so long even the babies have swagger. For once all the bravado is worth it. Sounding the way Oasis can only now dream of sounding, Alfie give us the sunshine in our lives.
