Book Description

October 1, 2007 From Pre and up
“If you see a fairy ring,
In a field of grass,
Very lightly step around,
Tiptoe as you pass. . . .”

A rich combination of enchanting verse and magical color illustrations make this a truly unusual and attractive book for younger children. The easy and accessible poems—all of them written by major literary figures—share a common theme: fairies and fairyland. Ingenious paper engineering produces illustrated images that change in their details as kids turn the pages. For example, a morning woodland scene becomes a moonlit fairy party when its gatefold is opened. The verses are by Robert Graves, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and several other memorable writers. Robert Graves offers the short, delightful verse, “I’d Love to be a Fairy’s Child,” and several poets, including Steven Kroll and Thomas Hood, present poems about fairies that visit children in their dreams. Laura Ingalls Wilder’s “The Sunshine Fairies,” and Juliana Horatia Ewing’s “The Rainbow Fairies” associate fairy activities with nature and the weather. These are just a few of the many poems that adorn this fine little volume. It will delight and enchant younger children each time they turn its pages.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"If You See A Fairy Ring is stunning! It's not necessarily a book for children, but it is a book that children will enjoy and love to read over and over again. Each poem has a 'magic window' that will wow the reader! The soft and inviting watercolor scenes will draw you in and transport you into the beauty, magic and wonder of the fairy world." "It is simply one of the most beautiful books I've ever seen. Armchair Interviews says: If you love fairies, then If You See A Fairy Ring is a must have. And it makes a charming gift."

—Andrea Sisco, Armchair Interviews, October 8, 2008

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and magical. . ., March 8, 2008

This review is from: If You See a Fairy Ring: A Rich Treasury of Classic Fairy Poems (Hardcover)
This is a delightful anthology of fairy poems, with gorgeous illustrations that through clever cutting and engineering change as the reader turns the page. The poems are short to medium in length. Some are by well known authors, such as William Shakespeare and Laura Ingalls (never knew she wrote poems), and some more obscure authors, but all are well-written. This is a great bedtime book, that both children and adults will enjoy on a regular basis. Recommended for slightly older children (6 on up), since rough handling could damage the changing pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Magical, September 10, 2008

This review is from: If You See a Fairy Ring: A Rich Treasury of Classic Fairy Poems (Hardcover)
This was a delightful discovery. My little girl loves anything about fairies. I thought this might be a little over her head, but it has been requested by her nearly every day for 3 weeks. The picture changes are unique and absolutely beautiful, reflecting the correlating poetry. Who knew Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote fairy poetry?! It will also be a great book for penmanship practice. This is definitely a book to keep in your family and give to your child when she grows up for her own children.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book, October 17, 2008

This review is from: If You See a Fairy Ring: A Rich Treasury of Classic Fairy Poems (Hardcover)
My four year old daughter loves this book. She has asked to have it read to her at nap and again at bedtime for several days now. The pictures move when you open some of the pages - it is very clever. The poems are short and sweet and when combined with such pretty pictures I understand why any little little girl will treasure it.
