Wonderful harmonies,

Thompson Twins cover as noted in comments to other review.Amazing work in reinterpretation of the original. The harmonies dance around magically as the male/females voices compliment one another. A great love song - one about trust and the effort involved to make a loved one stay, to fix problems that will happen in a relationship, to do whatever it takes even to keep someone you so love from leaving. That's one interpretation anyway - but I'd call this a love song any day of the week and Cary Brothers' performance is all the proof needed.

Probally The Best Anti-Love Song I've Ever Heard,
By
This review is from: If You Were Here (MP3 Download)
Cary Brothers (he's one guy, not two) has seemingly taken it upon himself to break the mold of the singer-songwriter genre by crafting something original. Now, I know this concept is pretty foreign in that genre, but Cary Brothers succeeds in every aspect of his music and creates brilliant and different acoustic coffeehouse music. "If You Were Here" is probably his best piece of work, creating an emotional anti-lovesong that isn't always as it seems. The full line is actually, "If you were here, I could deceive you." Whatever this means, I don't really know, but whatever it is, it's thoughtful heartfelt music that builds up perfectly, climaxing then bringing it back down again. The structure kind of reminds me of Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees." It sounds radio friendly, but it still carries an indie pop quality about it. As fully realized in a poignant scene in Psych, this song can complete the emotion in a touching moment, making it that more memorable. An excellently realized anti-lovesong, it shines bright with its original and touching brand of coffeehouse indie pop. Pick it up for your next date, or for some excellent background music, or even better, foreground music. What an interesting concept... music that's puts thought into itself. Who knew?
