2.0 out of 5 stars As if children can have love from only one parent at a time
Sure, it's a nice book, but it's yet another one that tells children that love and security comes only from mothers. No matter the species--ducks, bunnies, bears, etc--fathers are nowhere to be found. Are we making the world a better place for the next generation by implying to them over and over in children's literature that absent or irrelevant fathers is a universal...

As a mother, I really like it when a book has something meaningful to say. Some books are frivolous; they teach no lessons because they're just for the fun of it. The book "If You Were My Bunny" is both fun and meaningful. This book is about the relationship between mothers and their children, and in this slim story, five animal moms tell their respective animal babies how very precious they are. My two-year-old daughter loves this book so much, she requests it every night. The songs which accompany the text (lyrics are sung to the tune of familiar lullabies) have become her bedtime songs. The lyrics are so sweet, I'm no longer allowed to sing "the old words". The sentiment of this book is wonderful, and the songs are catchy. I would recommend, however, looking at the last page before your first read - this way, you'll know what tune to use for each of the five animal's songs. The illustrations are superbly done, and just right for the 2-4 age group. It's so important to read to your kids, and when they love a book as much as my daughter loves this one, you can look forward to a special time together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bedtime for bunnies., November 1, 2002
By
This review is from: If You Were My Bunny (Board book)
My 3 year old loves bunnies. She has since she was a little baby. She has had the same stuffed bunny since she was 3 months old and now has a baker's dozen of assundry rabbits. We even call her our little bunny. So when my wife saw this book for the first time she broke down in tears. We bought it there on the spot and it has quickly become our families favorite bedtime book.

This is a charming little book with great pictures. Singing the songs is a lot of fun. If a law was passed today that a family could only own 3 children's books this would definitely be one of ours.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book to calm a fussing baby...Great for nighttime!, November 22, 2001

I was given this book when my son was born, and it is by far his favorite. Each animal mother/baby pair has a read-it part and a sing-it part. The songs are revised lyrics done to standard lullabyes. The only song I didn't know the tune to was "Sleep, Baby, Sleep" (Sleep, Bear Cub, Sleep), so I made it up, and my son was none-the-wiser. He's 16 months old now, and he STILL calms down considerably when I sing the songs to him, although the book doesn't hold his attention as much as it used to. A must have, in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweetest book ever, June 16, 2002

This review is from: If You Were My Bunny (Board book)
This is both of my daughters'(ages 6 yrs and 20 mos)most requested book, and fun to read to them as you get to sing most of it. Tender lyrics about mommies and their babies, sung to classic lullaby tunes. Great book for snuggling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful lyrics, November 21, 2001

I was always uncomfortable singing songs with lyrics like "When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall", or the materialism in "Mama's going to buy you a mockingbird." In this book, five familiar lullabies are rewritten with beautiful lyrics about baby bunnies, bears, cats, ducks, and dogs with their mothers (and one duck father). Plus, what child wouldn't like looking at illustrations of baby animals settling down to sleep with their parents? An excellent book, I like it just as much as my daughter does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lullaby for baby, November 3, 2006
This review is from: If You Were My Bunny (Board book)
This is the BEST book someone gave me after my son was born! The book has songs to sing to familiar toons and gives you a guide in the back. This has always worked at getting baby to sleep and now I can quote the book.
I often give this at any baby shower now that I know about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite baby-toddler books, August 10, 2006
This review is from: If You Were My Bunny (Board book)
This is one of my very favorite books from the baby and preschool years. My daughter is 7 years old now, and I just came across "If You Were My Bunny" again while picking out baby shower presents for my best friend. "If You Were My Bunny" sets new poems to old lullaby tunes. The illustrations are charming, the length is just right, and it makes a perfect bedtime ritual. This is a special and memorable book.

My 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter started singing these songs while riding in the car. She sang them over and over. I asked her mom about it and she showed me this great book. She especially likes the one about the bear cubs as we have bears visit our property. Kids can't help but get the feeling they are special when someone reads this book to them. How many times do we say "I'm lucky to be your parent" to our kids because they are so awesome? This book does that. This book is comforting. It relays the message that we are here to take care of them, protect them and love them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daughter's favorite bedtime book, April 12, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: If You Were My Bunny (Board book)
We discovered this book close to Easter, so the bunny story was great. She loves this book, it's her favorite to hear at bedtime. The book takes you through some great scenes with mother animals and their babies, each accompanied with a song you can sing to a known tune, or make up your own! It ends with "If you were my baby and I was your mama..." so you can tuck your child into bed in a comforting way.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book...., June 7, 2001
This review is from: If You Were My Bunny (Board book)
This book is so wonderful. I love that it is a book about relationships between parents and children through the eyes of differnt animals. It tells songs that different animal parents would sing to their babies and it tells the songs to sing them to in the back so you can sing to your little bunny.
