5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD for all us simple rednecks
very enjoyable CD, fun to listen to and has a few songs that are poignant. I purchesed the CD because I love 'Going Through Hell', though I would not rate that as its best song. My 9 year old cousin loves to listen to 'Watching You' every time he is in my car and will listen to it 5 or 6 times. I really enjoy the somber 'Angel's Hands'.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit heavy
I like the CD, however the subject matter is a bit heavy for my tastes. I had heard one cut prior to purchase and was expecting something on a lighter (funnier) tone. A good CD - I don't regret my purchase, just have a beer as you enjoy it.

I was put off when reading the review from Amazon, by someone who probably enjoys anything but Country music, which would explain why he was described as 'poetic craftsman' and a 'hero for redneck simpletons'. I imagine if we enjoy simple songs that are not riddled acts of degradation to women or curse words, than we are not of the high class and only able to understand our small town values.

Purchase the CD, whether it be for yourself or a gift, it will be enjoyed, no matter how much of a backwoods, redneck, banjo picking, simpletion you may be. YEEHAW!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Country..., September 27, 2006
This review is from: If You're Going Through Hell (Audio CD)
Needless to say...but there have been a lot of mixed reviews for this album, Rodney's new CD. Most of them have noted the title track 'If You're Going Through Hell' as being a "good song" or a "hit. However, they failed to mention any of the rest. For example, the first two songs on this CD 'These Are My People' and 'About The South'...speak directly about country roots, smalltowns, good tunes and old ways...I absolutely loved them, to say the least. If you love country music for the lyrical anthem of the southern/country/redneck heritage, then you will like this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rodney is not hype but very real, March 22, 2007

I heard an interview with Rodney and it featured this CD. Each song had special meaning to him and he shared the stories. I had already heard several of the songs on the radio and each reminded me of something or someone. I was so impressed with what I heard I ordered 3 of this CD. One for each car and one for home. Going through hell is so appropriate for life these days. In the middle describes his ride home. Watching you reminds me of a friend who has a 4 year old son. Angel's hands really brings it back. Invisibly shaken speaks volumes about feelings. Good voice...Good CD

The first time I heard the song "If You're Going Through Hell" I felt like the lyrics were so relevant. I decided just because of that song to get the album. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I loved the entire album. Rodney is a great storyteller. His music stays focused on relevant issues and he shows he has a whole lot of personality. In his song "About the South" he really has a lot of fun. I love how fast and upbeat that song is. You can't help but sing along!! He shows his sense of humor in "Cleaning This Gun (Come on in Boy)" The song is about a father and his protective relationship with his daughter, who is about to go on her first date. I always think about my dad and the relationship between my husband and our daughter who is just 13. (She teases her daddy about when the day comes she can date. No doubt he'll be cleaning his gun!) It just makes you laugh!!! "Watching You" and "Angel's Hands" are great songs that tell stories that we all can relate to.

I highly recommend this album for everyone! It is clean, fun and great! I look forward to many, many more albums by Rodney Atkins!

4.0 out of 5 stars if you're gonna listen, November 19, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: If You're Going Through Hell (Audio CD)
To be honest, I am new to the whole country music scene. From my standpoint this is a great CD. I love the melodies that Rodney chooses for his songs. My least favorite song is "What I love about the South" simply because I hate the twang in it. I love "Come on in boy (cleaning this gun)", "If You're Going through Hell" and "Watching you."

Even with the bit of twang, it is still a good country rock album that deserves a listen... even to those who do not consider themselves "die-hard" country fans.

Curb Records has scored with this artist. Not an overnight sensation it has taken Rodney 10 years so he has went through hell and back. As one of the new faces artist at Country Radio Seminar he scored big with a standing ovation for his work on this album from everyone who was inattendence. These are the movers and shackers of country music from record label executives, radio programmers, and dj's. Rodney should be looking for this album to go plantinum. Thanks for the best cd put out in country music this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best, February 11, 2007
This review is from: If You're Going Through Hell (Audio CD)
This is definately one of the best country cds to come out in a while. Rodney keeps his traditional country style throughout the cd. Nothing fancy, not hyped up with ultra production, just pure, simple country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Country down to the last beat!, January 22, 2007
This review is from: If You're Going Through Hell (Audio CD)
When I heard the first song from this CD, If you're Going Through Hell, I couldn't help but like the beat, and the words too. It made me want to hear more of Rodney's music. I didn't realize right away that he was the same artist who sang Honesty also. I bought the CD because I loved that first single, and also Honesty, so I took a chance on it. I am so glad that I did, because it is now one of my favorites. This whole CD is country down to the very last beat. It is hard to pick a favorite track, but if I had to pick, In The Middle would be it. I am a country music fan, and this is definately in my opinion, one of country music's best! If you are looking for an excellent country CD, this one fits the bill perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rodney's Really Country, November 2, 2006

I liked the first couple songs that Rodney Atkins released, but the song that really got my attention was "Watching You." I love that song! I bought the CD for that song, if nothing else, but I was in for a real treat. There were many other awesome songs on there, including my other favorite- a very classic country song- called "A Man on a Tractor",and the first single off the CD (the title track) called "If You're Going Through Hell." On Rodney's second CD, you can also find songs about where he grew up (Tennessee to be exact, as he mentions in "In the Middle" and is evident in "What I Love About the South" and "These Are My People"). Although he sings those incredibly well, he has a talent for singing slower-paced songs too, such as "Angel's Hands" and "Invisibly Shaken."
Overall it is a wonderful CD from who I would predict to be one of the next big acts in country music.
