5.0 out of 5 stars Another Igloo MaxCold roller winner with useable capacity
Coolers are funny. Either you need a really large one or a smaller one; Nothing in between. Too small and after adding ice, there is not much space left for food & drinks. 1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I took this on a 5 hour car trip and it was on the backseat, not in the trunk. When I arrived at my destination 60% of the ice had melted. Because it doesn't have a drain I had to take everything out and try to pour out the water but keep the remaining ice. I will be selling this at my next yard sale.

Coolers are funny. Either you need a really large one or a smaller one; Nothing in between. Too small and after adding ice, there is not much space left for food & drinks. That is what makes the Igloo Coolfus 40 so good. It is the perfect size and shape to load up with plenty of ice and still have loads of space for brewsky's and sandwiches. This Igloo also has the superior 24 hour urethane super insulation maxcold with a soft enclosure that has storage pockets. It even has an elastic strap for securing beach blankets to the top for efficient loaded travel on its wheels. The extendable handle is rugged and works smoothly. There are folding handles on each side.
Why do I call this the perfect size? Because with all its capacity (40 quarts in a cube format), it comfortably sits on the passenger seat in my compact car seat. A rectangular one would not fit. The Coolfus 40 even fits through the open window without having to open the door. The cube shape yields the most internal volume for a given outer dimension. I did not purchase this unit at Amazon but at Target for $69. It was the most expensive cooler they had but the benefits were too great to let the steep price prevent my purchase. It really is a handsome winner. I saw it in all black and all red, but not the blue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, rugged cooler, and it travels well, April 17, 2010

This review is from: Igloo 40 Quart Cool Fusion Maxcold Roller Cooler (Sports)
We purchased this cooler for a trip to St. Martin. I made some meals ahead, froze them, and packed them in the cooler. I also wrapped the meals in some packing foam sheets, and the food was still frozen when we arrived at our unit in the afternoon. We used the rest of the space in the cooler for other belongings.
We had also intended to bring it to the beach. We ended up deciding that this was overkill, and just used an insulated bag instead. We would have had to carry it over the sand as the wheels are not made for loose sand.

The handle is a bit short for rolling along, so I got the big suitcase, and my (shorter) wife rolled the cooler through the airport. I got a cinch strap for it so that it could be opened by TSA, but would not fly open while being thrown around by baggage handlers
We haven't used it all that much, but I have great confidence that it is going to last a long time. It apears well designed and ruggedly built.

5.0 out of 5 stars The cooler you will grab first! Excellent Engineering!, May 8, 2009

This is by far the best cooler I have ever owned!
The pros:
It has wheels
It has a retractable handle
It has storage pockets made of nice durable material.
You can put a (beach bag or mini grill)on top of it when rolling.
It is the perfect size for an 18 pack and some water and sandwiches.
It has 2 cup holders
It has Max Cold technology that keeps ice for days.
There is a big zipper in the front that you can stuff a lot of stuff and it is lined in plastic.
It is clearly the cooler that you will grab that is easy to transport and just the perfect size for some nice cold ones.
Don't ever buy a cooler without wheels! Why break your back??
You will get many comments on how cool this cooler is.
The plastic on the inside is made for food.
It just plain looks nice and will last a long time.

The cons:
I paid 60 for a cooler. You get what you pay for.
There is no drain, but I think it is better with out one. My little one likes to push it in the back of the truck while we are driving.
It has these strechy band to hold the lid down. They are not necessary because it closes nicely.

If you are going to get one make sure you get this exact model and color.
I bought mine from target because I am going to the pool this afternoon and it did not come in a box.

If you want the perfect size cooler that fits very well in a seat and you want a cooler that actually keeps ice cold and has wheels so you don't break your back and storage to put your coozies in and sunblock and sunglasses and cell phone and beach towel. Then this is your cooler.

Highly recommend. I don't think that a damaged cooler on arrival and a product not releases for some time do this cooler justice. Its a cooler and my drinks are ice cold! Get one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Darn good!, October 9, 2006

(REAL NAME)
Okay, fair is fair. My original review was VERY negative, but that was mainly because Igloo fumbled the product release, and I couldn't get my hands on one! A couple weeks ago, I managed to buy one direct from them, and used it on a camping trip just last week.

All things considered, the cooler is pretty great. I wanted this one for 2 main reasons:

+1) My caming destination was remote. I needed to get the cooler on a plane, so I desperately wanted it for the wheels and handle. Basically, I converted it to a suitcase for the flight - filling it with camping gear and checking it as luggage. When I got to my destination, I converted it from a suitcase back to a cooler. It worked like a charm.

+2) Igloo makes a couple other coolers that are very similar, but this one (the blue model) has thicker insulation, and kept things cooler longer. Case in point, I was camping in the deset, and it did it's job admirably.

Not that it isn't without its drawbacks, although minor:

-1) Since it doubles so well as suitcase, it would be really nice if it had some way of locking; specifically, a place to attach a TSA lock. In the end, I had to purchase a couple TSA straps to fasten around it lengthwise and widthwise. The straps worked great, but cost an additional $30. Ouch.

-2) It would also be great if this cooler has a spicket for draining melted ice water out of it. I missed having this, and I'm not sure why any cooler this expensive would omit such a basic feature.

-3) Drawback #1 and 2 considered, the price is rather high. It worked well for me, but if I had to do it over, I might shop around a bit more.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with it, but it does cost a bit more than it should. Had the first two drawbacks been addressed, I would have said it was "worth every penny." But if I'm gonna spend this much on a cooler, I just don't wanna have to compromise one damn thing.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

This is the saddest, most pathetic cooler in the history of the world. Not because the cooler itself is bad (it's actually really nice), but because it just never seemed to get off the ground.

I wanted this cooler for the longest time, but Igloo kept delaying it's release, again and again, even though similar models had been available for months. Then, it got released, was available for several days (maybe even a week or two!) But shortly thereafter, it vanished back into the cooler ether, as mysteriously as it had come.

So what happened Igloo? You sell FOUR other coolers that are nearly identical (red, green, black - even friggin' camouflage!), and you sell about 127 other coolers that are the same damn color blue as this one, but this EXACT model in this EXACT color? I'd have a better chance sighting bigfoot! In short, a more beleaguered product launch I have never seen in my life!

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissatisfied customer, July 12, 2007
I paid $95.00 for an Igloo Cool Fusion Max Cold cooler for a birthday present. When I received the cooler it was badly packaged and had a broken handle. I had to pay $25.00 to ship it back. They did not offer to send me a new one, nor would they reimburse me for the shipping charges. Finally, two weeks after they recieved and signed for the returned cooler, they reimbursed me $85.00 (the price of the cooler without shipping). Basically, I spent $35.00 to not recieve the product I ordered, not even a broken one. I will never order from here again.
