Large Capacity Homebrew Beer Mash Tun dream,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Igloo Quick and Cool 100 Qt. Cooler (Sports)
I ordered this cooler because I needed something where I can mash enough grain for 10 gallon batches of a "big" beer. I just made a 12% Belgian with it that had 21.25 lbs of grain & 7.5 gallons of water and it didn't even fill it half way! My target strike water was 159F and it held it there for 40 minutes, and dropped (no lower) than 157F after 90 minutes. Excellent purchase for home brewing.Caveate - when you add a spigot/value on the side, be aware that you need a shank at least 1" (1.25" better) for wall thickness.

cheap latches make worthless,

This review is from: Igloo Quick and Cool 100 Qt. Cooler (Sports)
I liked my last Igloo cooler and used it for many years. Now I got a new and larger one and the latches only last for a few weeks of use. That's ridiculous. It pretty much makes the cooler extremely inefficient and almost worthless when you can't latch the lid.The latches are molded plastic and work by being bent at a crease in the plastic. It should have been pretty obvious to the designer that you can only bend a piece of plastic so many times before it breaks. Or maybe they have switched to a cheaper plastic, because these are sure failing fast? Some people are suggesting that they are doing this on purpose to force people to buy the latches. Kind of like printers and ink cartridges. It costs about $10 for a new latch with shipping ($15 if you get it from Igloo), and I am now buying my fifth latch. Maybe time to glue on some velcro straps and forget the latches.
