A thorough account of iguanid lizards from Cuba, August 11, 2008
This review is from: The Iguanid Lizards of Cuba (Hardcover)
I found this book a very accurate and thorough revision of all iguanids from the island of Cuba.It covers a wide range of topics, including recent status of the family, taxonomy, biogeography, fossil records conservation and an updated checklist for the area. There is a chapter on morphology describing the typpe of scales, toes, parts and characteristics of the head and other parts of the body, measurements, variation and keys for the identifications of all Cuban iguanid genera and species. General ecology and behavior, as well as genetic, are also treated in separate chapters.
The species accounts (one by one) covers most topics of interest: synonymy, geographical range, description of species, compared measurements, bibliography, morphological variation and natural history.
To my eyes and knowledge, it is perhaps the most beautiful, serious, professional and comprehensive books on Cuban iguanids.
The only complain are the illustrations, which are of medium quality. If this book is published in a new edition with high quality photos of all species treated, it then would turn into a classic, or bible, on the subject.
