Product Description

Color: Black

iittala’s Atlas candleholders are an intriguing combination of dynamic shape and poetic tenderness. First designed in 1996, the return of Harri Koskinen’s candle holder has been highly anticipated. The glass is imaginatively transformed into a powerful and soft figure. Enjoy light reborn. Substantial weight. Beautiful symmetry. Enduring design and construction are at the heart of the iittala philosophy: iittala, “lasting everyday design against throwawayism.” Made of glass in Finland. 4.25 x 9” Black

I love my Iittala Atlas Candleholders. The modern design looks great with my dining room furniture. I've used them many times with no issues, although I never let my candles burn to the very end. I'm a big fan of Iittala products and these did not let me down. I'm considering getting them in white as well.

I love iittala design.. I have been lucky to be able to purchase several items by this Finnish manufacturer of design products. A friend of mine gave me a pair of these candleholders for my birthday. Wow! what a gift! They look splendid on my Danish 70's side table.

Or should I say 'looked'. One day, not long after I hade received them, I placed two candles in them as you would with a candle holder. My wife and I sat in the kitchen chatting away over a meal when we heard a noise of something falling from around the corner. "Probably the cats" my wife said and we let it at that. But something was not right.. I stepped over to the location from where the noise came and saw that the candle holder had broke in two. The stump of the candle lay burning on the wooden side-table. I extinguished it quickly and got away with a nasty mark on the wood.

I contacted iittala customer service and they told me that it was normal for this candle holder to break when exposed to a burning flame. "I'm sorry?!", I said flabbergasted.. but they sent me the description of the candle holder where it stated that the candle holder is not fire proof and that they can break. I was told that one should not burn candles all the way and place a piece of tin foil at the end of the candle or stay with the candle holder to put out the flame. These candle holders do not come cheap, a piece of tin foil?!

The only thing I can say is that this is really bad customer service from a company that really shouldn't have this attitude towards its loyal customers. No more iittala for me.. what a deception.
