5.0 out of 5 stars Orunmila has spoken, please listen carefully!
This book, Ijo Orunmila by Babalawo Fasina Falade, is such a blessing and treasure. I highly recommend it for not only us (Ifa devotees) seeking knowledge and truth, but those interested in a traditional African belief system. I whole-heartidly appreciate the way that Baba Fasina has taken time out to explain in detail everyday terms that we use, but probably never...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good content for introduction. Poor Editing
Baba Fasina Falade's content in this book makes a very good introduction to the Ifa faith. It sets the groundwork for further exploration and learning. In this manner, I feel this is an excellent compilation. I commend Fasina Falade for his work. Of equal value is the strong and enlightening forward by Adeosun Ifalade. The forward is effective in opening one's mind and...

This review is from: Ijo Orunmila (Mass Market Paperback)
This book, Ijo Orunmila by Babalawo Fasina Falade, is such a blessing and treasure. I highly recommend it for not only us (Ifa devotees) seeking knowledge and truth, but those interested in a traditional African belief system. I whole-heartidly appreciate the way that Baba Fasina has taken time out to explain in detail everyday terms that we use, but probably never knew or understood the true meaning of, such as: Olorun, Iwa, Otito, and Suuru, just to name a few. What's good about this book, besides the sections on Oriki, the Odu's, Libation, etc., which we use in daily worship, are how he correlates it all together as the beautiful and spiritual tradition we know as Ifa. Each section is insightful and in my honest opinion, dispells any mis-conception on how our tradition is perceived or practiced. Baba, adupe pupo (thank you very much) for hearing the call and answering it by writing such a wonderful and inspirational oracle. One would do themselves an injustice NOT to have Ijo Orunmila in their collection.

This review is from: Ijo Orunmila (Mass Market Paperback)
Baba Fasina Falade's content in this book makes a very good introduction to the Ifa faith. It sets the groundwork for further exploration and learning. In this manner, I feel this is an excellent compilation. I commend Fasina Falade for his work. Of equal value is the strong and enlightening forward by Adeosun Ifalade. The forward is effective in opening one's mind and building enthusiasm to read the rest of the book. The dissatisfaction I have with this book is in the editing. There are annoying typographical errors throughout the text. At times, these errors make reading somewhat difficult. This is the ONLY reason that I do not give this book a higher rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for the serious student of Ifa, May 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ijo Orunmila (Mass Market Paperback)
The author of this book, A Babalawo and a Chief, makes the reader feel very comfortable taking in the knowledge and wisdom of this powerful spiritual tradition.

The reader is introduced to the basics of Ifa, in a simple and unintimidating way. The profound beauty of this spiritual path comes across in every word, and leaves the reader hungering for more.

At a time when every one is an expert and trying to cash in on the rapid growth of this spiritual tradition in the US, it is refreshing to see a seasoned, well taught and sincere priest and teacher come forth.

Do read this book and do contact the author, who is very approachable, which is also very refreshing.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent primer of Ifa., January 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ijo Orunmila (Mass Market Paperback)
Aburu, Aboye, Abosise(Greetings),Fasina Falade has put together an excellent primer of some of the basic tenants of Ifa. The short amount of time that I have spent studying this culture has led me to conclude that it is vast and will take a lifetime to explore and absorb. This book focuses on the moral guides that need to be absorbed and practiced in order to allow one to acheive thier destiny. The "story" is the foundation of African primary learning. The "Oriki/Praise Poetry" "Pataki"and ancient stories from the "Odu" give the readers knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. Three major things about this publication make me happy to have a copy in my library. First there are prayers that are included which are useful daily. Second is the references to the roles of females in this system. Several chapters are devoted to women and their energies. Third is the broad brushstroke the author used to depict something so vast as the universe known and unknown and its creator. The third aspect has been done in an easy to read, casual style that leads the reader to use the Bibliographies and references as they were intended. Adupe(Thank You), Fasina FaladeOlumbe

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish more people can become more aware of IFA., October 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Ijo Orunmila (Mass Market Paperback)
IFA is a consistant learning process. Once you're exposed to this truth, you gain a hunger to learn more. This book opens the door just enough to allow you to gain a genuine interest. To question your place, purpose, and action here as an individual, and to think about your next step. What direction will you be going? This book needs to be in the book stores, libraries, and on-line. It is important that all people have an opportunity to read an assimulate. Great job Baba Fasina Falade'.

Aboru aboye abosise Baba Fasina Falade I have just finished reading the book Ijo Orunmila by Baba Fasina Falade. This book is absoluetly wonderful. It has brought my understandings of the traditions to a new level.I can not convey enough good words about this book. It helps one learn about the traditions of the ancestors of Ile Ife. I give my most humble suggestion for anyone who is interested in African traditions and/or culture to get this book. This book , i believe, is for everyone and will help anyone find what it is they are looking for. I personally thought this book was so good that I plan on getting every book by this publishing company. David ps. if you wish to ask me questions about this book please email me at ServiLoa@aol.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Still Good Info, February 18, 2006
By
This review is from: Ijo Orunmila (Mass Market Paperback)
A lot of what can be found in this book was originally hosted on the first Ijo Orunmila web site that Fasina Falade used to run. It is still good info to have in written form for those that read it back then and still great info to discover for those that never saw the original web site. My concern is editing. Awo Fasina's text is full of spelling and grammatical errors, so much so that you wish the original web site was back. (Ironically enough the free web site was completely error free.) If I could recommend only one thing: Ara Ifa Publishing MUST edit this book again before printing a new edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all who seek the truth!!, December 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Ijo Orunmila (Mass Market Paperback)
For the layman of the world in search of the reasons why we are here in the world this book offers much food for thought. This work provides a candid look at something to which we all can relate. Ifa is not just a religion but a way of life. The elders that came before us believed in Ifa and it sustained them for thousands of years. Awo Falade has managed to put words together that make the traditional African belief system understandable to those who know nothing, a little or a lot about it. For a book of only 100 pages there is a wealth of information. The concepts offered in this book are an easy read. You do not need 20 years of study to understand it. I found it to be well put together and to the point. Definitely a worthwhile read.
