The Ikettes Had it Goin' On!, June 7, 2000
FUnny that this isn't available yet, because I was able to get a copy at Amazon in February. Anyway, if you're an Ike and Tina (or just a Tina) fan, this is well worth the price. There's lots of stuff that most people would probably think looks "dated" from the late 60's/early 70's, like trippy-looking backgrounds and backscreen effects, but it looks great if you are a fan of that look-really fun to watch. The highlights are probably "Acid Queen" (with Tina wearing a great outfit that proves she has the best body in rock and roll, if not the world), "Get Back", "Proud Mary" and a really great version of "Honky Tonk Woman". As always, Tina really cuts loose on stage with a result that makes your jaw drop, but the Ikettes are also espcially impressive, especially during the latter number. Ike Turner claims he designed the whole 'look' of the Ikettes including their micro-mini costumes (if you're wondering how they could dance in them, the ultra-short dresses had little hotpants built in...though I notice all the band members standing behind them all have permanent huge smiles on their faces) and all their dance moves (though they had to have serious talent to pull it off, plus looks that could stop traffic), and if so he deserves credit for it-to watch them dance, perfectly choreographed, with their hair flying everywhere on the beat and moves that would throw most people's backs out-they are truly a force of nature. You have to see it to believe it! I can't recommend the video enough if you're a fan-and if you aren't, buy it and see what all the fuss is about.

.................PROUD TINA BURNS THE FLOOR..............., June 29, 2000
This must be the best Ike&Tina video ever, and by far one of the best music videos you can own(along with all of Tina's other videos which are even better.) In this video you get an idea of the amount of energy it takes to do an Ike & Tina show, its not until you TRY TO DANCE ALONG, (which you will inevitably do) that you get a true sense of why TINA IS SIMPLY THE BEST. The phsicadelic film screen backgrounds, and 60's/70's hair and costumes, and dance moves just add to the vintageness and beauty of the show. THE DANCING IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE..........TINA'S VOICE IS SO PERFECT AND POWERFULL..........IT'S JUST AMAZING. The highlights are (Of course)"PROUD MARY"..."HONKY TONK WOMAN"...and "ACID QUEEN"(In which Tina shows of her sexy body with a "torn" loinclothy dress. Its wonderful and even if your not a Tina fan (How can you not be) you have to add this to your collection.

The performances are classic!, November 15, 2001

This review is from: Ike & Tina Turner - The Best of MusikLaden (DVD)
To anyone who is considering buying this video -- buy it! There are a few naysayers who have written about the production quality (editing, song selection, etc.), but if you place this compilation in its proper context, it's truly a must-have for both the Tina connoisseur and curious listener alike. What viewers should remember is that MusikLaden was a TV SHOW in the 1970's. This video collects the best of Ike and Tina from their appearances. Do not expect a full-length concert, rather a colorful array of sounds and images (the songs ARE full-length). To have documentation of Tina from this period is incredible, since most video material available is post-Private Dancer (1984/1985). Nutbush City Limits is funky (Tina is having a great time singing) Proud Mary is amazing (this version surpasses the recorded version by far, as most Ike and Tina songs do) Get Back is playful and the Ikettes have wonderful shots with creative choreography Acid Queen is a glitzy look at Tina without Ike just as she was going solo in the mid-70's - a very campy performance, Delilah's Power is fun for both the eyes and ears, River Deep-Mountain High is not anything near the intensity of the Phil SPector original but still displays Tina's voice in raw form coupled with a commanding stage presence. The only song I skip over is Baby Get It On, mostly because it's difficult to hear Ike sing -- Tina's outfit is fun and glittery though! So, if I haven't convinced you, then I haven't done my job! If you're concerned about the cost, get it on VHS - if you don't mind fast-forwading manually. ENJOY!
