I like to prepare the greens for salads early and keep them in the refrigerator for several hours before preparing them. This tends to make for better texture in the salad. Usually, I wash and spin out the greens then put them in a plastic bag with paper towels. With this spinner, the lid fits firmly and snaps on. This makes it handy for spinning the greens, emptying out the water from the base, and putting the entire spinner in the refrigerator to act as a crisper for a salad to be eaten later. Because it's slightly smaller, it fits even in modest-size refrigerators. This was an unexpected bonus to using it as compared to bigger and bulkier spinners.
As long as you aren't rough on your salad spinner or don't need to make enormous salads, this will suit you well and is well worth the Ikea price of $4. As it is currently offering on Amazon, for around $11, I think it is too expensive and that and the thin construction are why I'm giving it 3 stars even though I'm largely satisfied with it.
This salad spinner gets the job done. It isn't particularly large, but easily holds two normal sized romaine heads. It could probably accommodate an iceberg head (haven't tried).
There isn't a whole lot of space between the bottom of the shell and the inner basket, so if you have a particularly wet bunch you may need to spin, dump, and spin again. Hasn't come up for me yet, but I've been close.
I compare this to the push spinners that I would have preferred. Those are much easier to get up to high spin speeds, but I haven't seen many for less than $30. At a third the price, this is a good deal even if it isn't quite as good.

For the price, this salad spinner is great! I would recommend buying this directly from Ikea to save money, but the price is pretty low here too.Published 1 day ago by SLS
I wish there was an opening in the top to run water as I spin, but otherwise, it is great. Just the right size for a 2 person salad.Published 4 days ago by Carrol D. Nevius
