Product Description

Dive into underwater photography with this compact yet sophisticated system. Durable polycarbonate and acrylic construction provides a unique view of the camera to ensure correct waterproof installation and confidence underwater. Simply close the two stainless steel locking lid snaps, and see the o-ring form a solid black, watertight seal. Large, ergonomic controls provide access to all important camera functions. Product details TTL or "Through-The-Lens" flash metering means the camera controls flash duration to properly expose an image. Unique intelligence built into the housing communicates to the camera when a compatible external TTL flash is attached and transmits exposure information. This allows the camera to adjust the compatible strobe's power with incredible accuracy. Other benefits include reduced shutter lag, longer battery life, and less heat build up as compared to fiber optic systems which require the camera's built-in flash to fire. The housing port is designed to accept 3.0-inch diameter color filters, and wide angle or macro options with 67mm threads. Light is absorbed very quickly as it passes through water. A subject will look darker, less colorful and somewhat grainy when viewed through even a few feet of water. The addition of a compatible wide angle accessory expands the camera's field of view underwater, providing the opportunity to get as close as possible to the subject and reduce the amount of water light passes through. The results speak for themselves - photos with the best color, exposure and clarity possible. Ikelite products are designed, built and tested in the USA. We use locally sourced, top-grade materials. Our housings are built by hand and individually tested for fit, function and waterproof integrity. We back our products with over 50 years of experience and service within the dive industry.

I bought this housing for my LX5 a little over 2 years ago. I am a recreational diver and travel infrequently to dive. After buying it I inspected the O-rings as suggested and found them all to be in good condition and with a little lubrication on them. It was months before I was able to actually use this on a dive. On my first dive I noticed that the camera was sticking once I crossed 35-45 feet. Upon some troubleshooting I discovered that the knob that allows you control over the aperture/shutter speed dial was being sucked in due to a vaccum being created within the camera. Now any diver knows that air compresses at depth but I wouldn't call this a cheap UW housing and it is rated much deeper than that! Anytime I had to take a photo below 40ft I had to pull the knob back then press the shutter. It's extremely awkward and uncomfortable and makes getting a stable shot quite difficult. The housing itself looks like it's built for many different cameras and functions are customized (buttons/knobs) for different cameras. While the housing itself is pretty solid this annoyance pretty much renders this housing useless. I contacted Ikelite whose customer service in my opinion is terrible. They just suggested I replace the O-rings and pointed me to a link where I can buy it myself. I was planning on buying two strobes and a tray for this housing but after this experience I can safely say this is the last Ikelite product I will ever buy. I will not be encouraging any of my colleagues to buy any Ikelite housings either. If you have a problem you're pretty much on your own.

I had an awesome experience with customer service. The item was shipped damaged, which is probably Adorama's fault, not Ikelite, and the guys at Ikelite were eager and willing to get me sorted; no hassles whatsoever.

That said, I opted to return this housing anyway and go for a Canon housing for the S95 instead. The housing itself is quite huge, much bigger in person than you would expect; it just doesn't make sense to have that much empty air around such a small point and shoot camera. I get the feeling that Ikelite just repackaged an old design they had and re-drilled the holes to accommodate the Lumix, rather than just design a more space-saving housing from scratch.

If you are considering small camera housings, and you don't yet have the camera or the housing, I would recommend the Canon S95 and the stock housing that Canon makes for it. Then research an adapter that turns the front of the housing into a 67mm thread for a fisheye lens. I did that and my whole setup is still smaller than this housing. Clips right onto my BCD for diving, no problem. The Ikelite would be way too big to do that comfortably.

Sorry Ikelite- you guys are great, but this housing is way too big.
