My name is Ilana Garon. I was born in Washington, DC, and spent a few years in Paris, France (where I gained three brothers, much to my surprise) before my family moved back to the DC metro area. I came to New York City to attend Barnard College...and I never left. Now I'm in my mid-30's. Wow, how did that happen?
I teach 9th-12th grade English at a public high school in the Bronx, which is alternately exhilarating and exhausting, and often hilarious. I also write about education and related issues; my first book is in that vein, but hopefully a more humorous take on the issues than readers are accustomed to. I'm now working on a YA novel.
In my spare time I run competitively (I've done five marathons, and I'll be running Chicago this fall!), take weird exercise classes that involve kettlebells, read anything that isn't nailed down, nap on my couch, live-stream movies on Netflix, and hang out with friends and family. I love chocolate frosted donuts, iced coffee, The New Yorker, red lipstick, and Asics running shoes.
