A Must for iBook and MacBook Users,
By
This review is from: Ilap 14 - Laptop Stand By Rain Design (Personal Computers)
Since the new MacBooks run hotter than the older iBooks, I needed to find a way to use the computer in my lap without burning my legs. I knew about the iLap before, but this time I really researched it before deciding to buy it for my new computer. Let me tell you, this is one of those products that does exactly what it is supposed to do. I bought the 14" iLap (instead of waiting for the 13" version) because I needed it now. It keeps the computer off of my legs and I can no longer feel the heat from the computer. The back piece can rotate with your legs, so it works from many different sitting positions.
Perhaps the biggest positive surprise is how the front velvet padding lifts your wrists off the MacBook. If you have used a new MacBook, then you have probably experienced the strange, sharp ridge that goes around the machine. After a few hours of usage, I end up with grooves cutting into my skin. The iLap's design completely removes the discomfort! You can type and use the machine for hours without any problems. This is a fantastic product that I highly recommend to any Apple laptop user. It is well built, well designed, and I would argue that it is a necessity for those that use the new MacBook. The 14" is perfect for the new MacBook, so I have no problem recommending this version if you don't want to wait for the new one. Buy the iLap today and save your legs from burning!

Not worth the price -- design problem -- 0 stars,

I bought an iLap and at first was delighted. But I soon discovered that the cloth cushion was held on only by simple rubber cement! The heat of the laptop causes the cement to melt, and the pillow simply came off -- useless. The sticky residue remains, making it difficult to use without the cushion. Attempts to contact customer service by phone or email were ignored. I had to conclude that not only was the product inferior, but the company was not acting in good faith.

The most important point of this stand is it will keep a hot iBook off your lap,
that it does very well. But it should be about $20 to get a 5 star rating. The rubber non-shid feet supplied do a very good job of keepin your iBook in place but the velcro holding the one pad on seems a design afterthought. I creeps out of place and requires careful reattachment every couple of weeks. If you suffer from hot iBook lap this will do the trick but the price will make you think twice after you see it.

I bought this because I work from home on my iBook and was starting to feel the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome. I didn't have a way to hold it in my lap or on the table that was comfortable. I checked into portable desks, etc. and then found the iLap and decided to give it a try. It has been great! I don't have as much pain in my right arm when typing now. The cushion elevates the laptop and gives you wrist support.

I have been using my laptop stand by Rain Design for almost 2 months now. I have my laptop computer on a wireless router and enjoy reading my e-mails in the morning while I drink my coffee on the couch. One problem; most of the time I couldn't get through reading my e-mails before my lap got so hot from the computer that I would have to put my computer back on the table to cool off. Not any more; now I can work with my computer on my lap for as long as I want to without any discomfort. I especially like the velour covered pad on the front of the stand. For the purpose that I bought the laptop stand it couldn't have worked out better.

I was looking for a product that would allow me to use my 13" Macbook on my lap (the Macbook gets uncomfortably hot after using it alone on my lap for a while). Searching the internet for notebook cooling pads, I found essentially two types of cooling pads- those that require power and cool via small fans... and the iLap. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of plugging my cooling pad into a power source. I liked the iLap for its simple design (less to go wrong) and its elegant looks. After using it for the last couple of monthes, I am very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone who uses a Macbook on their lap.

I bought this for my G4 iBook. It fits perfectly. With it, I have no problems using my iBook on my bare legs, even when it's plugged in; before, it was too hot unless running on battery and even then use for a long period of time could become uncomfortable. It looks pretty good, too; and I bet the black velvet would look really good with a new black MacBook.

14" iLap - great concept, needs refining,

I've had this for quite a few months now. In a nutshell, it is an excellent concept, with some design details that could be improved.
Pros: 1. Comfortable on my lap for shorter working periods. 2. Keeps laptop heat off my body. 3. Looks great, I've gotten lots of compliments. 4. Provides improved ergonomics both on my lap and when working on a desk/table. Wrist support cushion is very comfortable. Cons: 1. Longer working periods on my lap become less comfortable because the surface area of the padding is fairly limited. Wider padding would improve this a lot. The narrow padding ends up digging into my legs after a while. This really becomes problematic after an hour or two for me. 2. Very difficult to transport. It needs detachable parts or some folding mechanism. It is an awkward size and difficult to pack. 3. The larger padded piece at the front of the iLap slips out of its metal casing easily. I find myself adjusting it a lot. 4. Overpriced, and difficult to find a deal. Overall, it sure beats the heck out of resting my laptop (an iBook G4) directly on my lap, but really needs refining to be worth the pricetag. |
