El Asedio -Historic Novel,

An excellent exposition of Spain under Napoleonic occupation and of life in Cadiz at that time. Coincides with many of the latin american wars of independence as the colonies took advantage of Spain's weakness.
While not as good as El Club Dumas, which I doubt that the author will ever surpass, it is nonetheless an excellent read. Some of the use of naval argot and the Spanish of 200 years ago (especially in the lengthy descriptive passages) can make it a bit difficult for those who do not have Spanish as a first language. Well worth the effort, however. |
