A Tribute To Kirk and a New Start for Split Lip Rayfield,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: I'll Be Around (Audio CD)
This is an amazing album, however, before you buy it you should first purchase all of the other Split Lip Rayfield studio albums. The reason? You won't fully appreciate this album until you fully understand who this band is and how amazing they were with Kirk (guitar, co-founder) at the helm. Kirk had tragically passed away from cancer in 2007 and in 2008 the band released this incredible tribute to him. The songs are as good if not better than any previously released. Eric Mardis' banjo playing is so good on this album it has to be heard to be believed. You can really tell that the band put everything they had into this album to make it as special as it could possibly be and they really knocked it out of the park. This is sort of like if the Beatles had re-formed in the mid 1980s and released a tribute to John Lennon that was as good if not better than any previous Beatles album. Impossible right? Not with Split Lip Rayfield. The sound quality on this CD is better than any of the previous releases. The Gas Tank Bass is really well recorded and you'll get a nice bass "pop" on every note. For anybody who is a fan of country/bluegrass or anybody who has lost someone close to them, this is a must own album. This is hands down the best album of 2008, it's just a shame more people don't realize how good this band really is.
