She's No Fool, August 24, 2000
This review is from: I'll Cry If I Want to / Mixed-Up Hearts (Audio CD)
What would the 1960's have been without Petula Clark,Dusty Springfield and Lesley Gore...pretty lame if you are a female vocalist fan. There are lots of Petula and Dusty reissues, but Lesley reissues all tend to be repackagings of her hits. Until now. This release features Lesley's first two albums in their entirety. Yes,there are some hits:It's My Party, Judy's Turn To Cry, You Don't Own Me(stereo and mono versions), Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows and my favorite She's A Fool. They still sound great, but what's wonderful about this release is Lesley's poise and energy in attacking several standards and doing a superb job. Great versions of Cry Me A River,Cry(the Johnnie Ray song),Misty, What Kind Of Fool Am I,The Party's Over, Fools Rush In, all done to perfection. The Really smashing thing is that Lesley was 17 when these albums were recorded! The albums were produced by Quincy Jones. The liner notes are written from a British point of view which gives a different spin on Lesley's career. Hopefully,we'll see more of Lesley's albums released in this fashion. Good job!

Much-Deserved Reissue, August 24, 2000
This review is from: I'll Cry If I Want to / Mixed-Up Hearts (Audio CD)
Excellent combination of her first two LPs, which contained most of her 1963-1964 hit singles plus seldom-heard gems like "The Party's Over" and "My Foolish Heart". The sound quality is quite good, which gives you the opportunity to hear the diverse elements of Quincy Jones' terrific arrangements. Accompanied by a truly excellent booklet with history, track by tracks notes, recording dates, etc.

Don't Cry, Leslie! Great job!, December 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: I'll Cry If I Want to / Mixed-Up Hearts (Audio CD)
This two-album compilation is excellent. Lesley is not just singing teen angst songs like "I Struck A Match" or "The Young Crowd" (by Carole King) but adding adult songs like "My Foolish Heart," "Fools Rush In," and "Misty." Lesley is at her peak here, with her included like "It's My Party," "Judy's Turn to Cry" and the classic "You Don't Own Me." Besides her greatest hits volume, this CD is a "must" for Lesley Gore fans! Sassy or sad, Lesley's style is impeccable.
