Quirky and cute cozy,

This cozy concerns a country vet/private detective who is called on to investigate a murder at a dairy farm. There is the usual pool of quirky suspects, but I enjoyed this book because of its slapstick, LOL humor. Apparently The Case of the Ill-Gotten Goat is the third in a series of mysteries featuring Dr. McKenzie, but the "cast of character" at the beginning of the book allows those new to the series to enjoy it.

This book was a great one - I enjoyed the entire series so far and hope there will be more! Dr. McKenzie along with his wife and two assistants make for a good read.

Loved the idea, but the main character isn't very likable,

This mystery is about a DVM and his wife (and a menagerie of assistants and friends) who run a PI business as well as treat their animal clientle. I absolutely loved the goat dairy setting of this mystery. Though, in my opinion there were too many characters and too many subplots going on at one time.
Overall, a good book, but, the story was a bit scattered & far fetched at times. Perhaps, if I had liked the main character better I would've liked this one more. At times the Dr. was very patronizing & pretentious- in other words an arrogant old fart! So, I doubt I'd read this one again.

Fun but flawed,

This is a cozy mystery with enjoyable characters (I love a senior detective) and some terrific insight into the ins and outs of raising goats. I enjoyed the book, with reservations.
Typos sneak in to any book, of course, and the many typos in this one we have to put down to copyediting problems. I just wish the author had gotten the Italian right! Surely a native speaker could be found to correct errors? I was willing to forgive the constant use of "Donna" as a title--it should be "Signora"--but near the end, someone says "Es vero," which is not Italian at all, and I gave up. Basic rule of using foreign languages in novels is, don't, unless you know the language or have a reliable authority to advise you.
