About the Artist
Shanna Anjali is a 19-year-old vocalist that songwriter Hinrichsen describes as one of the most naturally gifted singers he has ever heard, anywhere, period. Her rich, soaring, vocals, and straightforward style, adds to the emotional sway of the song. Richard Hinrichsen is a bass player/songwriter living in Seattle. Over the last 25 years, he has composed classical, jazz, and R&B. He founded, wrote for, and led the band "Jet City Power Company," which played original funk and rock, with a powerful 4-piece horn section. His mentors include jazz pianist Richard A. Underwood (Clemson, S.C.) and the late guitarist and music theory professor Al Galante (Edmonds, WA. His favorite songwriter is Randy Newman.

This album is a CD single of the song "I'll Love You Always," which is a song about love, loss, and hope sung by up-and-coming vocalist Shanna Anjali. Rich Hinrichsen wrote this song as a tribute to his brother who died in 1993. The song begins with a Bach-inspired chorale played by a brass quintet, then two drum beats signal a soaring vocal from Shanna. The song has a feeling of church, moving to a higher dimension, grief, and hope. The songwriter's anger at his loss is expressed in a surprise Spanish-style interlude featuring the horns and guitar. The song ends like it begins, with the brass choir playing a chorale. The single features three extras which represent unique performances of the song with various instrumentations and arrangements. The composition by Rich Hinrichsen is remarkably captivating and courageous. He mixes genres and makes it work. A brass quintet, a classical guitar, a jazz trio, a haunting saxaphone, all tied together by a teenage bluesy vocalist. You cannot listen to it just once. The message is touching, the presentation georgeous. We can only hope for more by this brilliant newcomer to the musical scene.

This CD conveys a strong, beautiful message of love and hope shining through grief and pain. It will be especially helpful for people who have experienced the loss of someone they love. Just as grief contains multiple feelings, this CD includes multiple versions of the same piece. They provide surprisingly different listening experiences, each of which may fit the best at a different moment. Shanna Anjali's voice warmly evokes the feelings expressed. The instrumentation feels life-affirming and brings a sacred quality to the music. I highly recommend it for yourself or for people you care about and want to support in their healing.
