I must begin by saying that I am not usually a fan of R. Kelly, some of his lyrical statements disagree with me. However in the case of "I'll Never Leave" I was very moved by this song. "I'll Never Leave" makes a statement not often heard in African American culture, but is sometimes necessary for men to make if they wish to maintain a relationship within the culture. For Females the thought that their loved one may be leaving or is not there for the relationships' long haul can cause them to experience fear and take actions that are not normal. The knowledge the lyrics put forth gave the song rich meaning. The verbal reassurance provided right from the beginning of the song was soothing because of the forward and direct manner of the opening statement. The Music provides the feel of circular motion with syncopated stops and accents which lends credibility to the words by providing an infinite feel. The Chord progression is Churchy in nature and the progression by design draws a level of real emotion from the listener. In my opinion the song I'll Never Leave may be one of R. Kelly's greatest works.
