Book Description

March 12, 2002 6 and up1 and up
Newbery Honor winner Mavis Jukes’s highly praised picture book is reissued
with a new jacket and in a more appealing trim size.

“With the brilliant colors of a wild sunset sky, this picture book expresses the exhilaration of flying a plane and connects that power with a sense of fragility and grief. A small girl, like Amelia Earhart, takes off in a biplane, like a moth at dusk, and skywrites ‘I love you’ and ‘goodbye’ in the clouds as a message for her terminally ill young uncle in his hospital room. But then it turns out her flight is imaginary; she’s really a passenger, with her mother, on a big, crowded jet on her way to visit the hospital. . . . Without sentimentality or falseness, the spare, echoing words make death a part of the ‘rise and fall’ of life.”—Booklist, Starred

4.0 out of 5 stars touching and powerful, May 3, 2004

Mavis Jukes takes a difficult subject, death, and masterfully tells a tale of a young girl's struggle to accept her uncle's pending death. Readers of all ages should find his creativity a touching and powerful means of dealing with death. For children who may be forced to deal with the atrocities of death, "I'll see you in my dreams" is an excellent resource that may provide comfort, hope, and even joy.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'll See You in My Dreams, March 12, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: I'll See You in My Dreams (Library Binding)
I found this book to be very weird. The book is about a girl talking about what she would do if she were a skywriter. She is going to see her uncle and she dreams of doing things for him, with his plain. The book has good coloring and neat drawings. I think it's nice what she wishes she could do to cheer him up. It a ok book to read. So read it!
