Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Weinstein has written more than 10 books and a number of articles on career planning and job hunting. He uses this attention-getting title to focus on several job search strategies that have always been around but that have usually been relied upon only as a last resort. Touting the advantages of internships and volunteer work in today's tougher job market, he suggests techniques for identifying opportunities and utilizing these alternatives. Working for free gets one's foot in the door, allows one to gain valuable experience, leads to helpful contacts, and can fill in resume gaps (although Weinstein also suggests that resumes are no longer an effective tool in landing interviews; he suggests instead a tailored, targeted letter-writing campaign). Emphasizing unconventional strategies, he also advises job searchers to consider nonprofits, business incubators, and new business start-ups as potential job sources. Weinstein's book is filled with uncommon advice and is a welcome addition to a crowded field. David Rouse --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
