4.0 out of 5 stars Mac Mall and Khayree once again working together
Many people here had a lot of bad things to say about this album. Maybe because it sounded very different from his previous classics "Illegal Game?" and "Untouchable", and some people don't like a change. But believe me, they are wrong! Many people here had a lot of bad things to say about this album. Maybe because it sounded very different from his previous classics "Illegal Game?" and "Untouchable", and some people don't like a change. But believe me, they are wrong! This is a tight album, with a whole different sound. You just can't go wrong with legendary producer Khayree - he invents the game once a game, coming out with some new types of beats (yet not that different than the beats you've heard on the previous YBB albums). Mac Mall and Khayree are one of the best rapper/producer combination - they're like Dr. Dre/Snoop, Mannie Fresh/Juvenile, Ant Banks/Too Short - you get the idea... They've got natural chemistry together and it shows on the album. Mac Mall's rapping skills can't be denied, although on some songs his flow is a bit different from what we're used to. However, Mall a.k.a. Baby Capone is still one of the most unique rappers to come out the West. He's got that real candid mentality, speaking what's on his mind - which is mostly hustlin', trying to come up in this rap game... The lyrics are clever, his flow is (usually) on point. Some songs are very hard (songs like "Rude Boy", "Keys to the city", "Don't Move" feat. Jt The Bigga Figga and others), and some are a bit more laid back and mellow ("Wide Open", "Pus** wipped", "Mac Fashion" , ) The bottom line is, that it's a record you can play from beginning to end without skipping a song (well maybe you'll skip those stupid skits they put on there just to fill space). "Illegal Game 2000" is a very good album, a consistant one, only preparing us to another Mac Mall masterpiece, that was released a couple of years later - "Immaculate"!

I enjoyed this CD. I've liked Mac Mall for a minute. Just went on vac to Oakland and the people there love music. For a artist to make it out of the local is hard. This CD is on hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mall does it again, October 24, 1999

This cd is too tight, it takes awhile to get used to because it is so much different than other rap coming out right now (Which is definitely a good thing) Mall shines lyrically and Khayree composes a masterpiece with the beats, I garauntee you've never heard anything like this on a rap cd before. As I said in my review of the original Illegal Business? Mall and Khayree are always ahead of their time, and this just came out so your getting some dope futuristic funk....:)

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Cut From Mall, December 9, 2000
By
This review is from: Illegal Business? 2000 (Audio CD)
Anyonw who says this is not for rap fans is a joke. This is not the same dirty set of rap tracks. It has a refined feel to it which shows Khayree's growth, as well as where he is taking the rap game. These tracks come with a new feel to them. The guitar work on CLockwork is classic. Mohave has be bobbing my head. And yes, there still are the hard cuts which make you say, "Wow." Do People Ever Ask You is one of the best rap tracks ever. Keys to the City and Don't Move also got a real hard sound to them which is reminiscient of older gangsta rap. All in all, this really shows Mall's rhyming skill and Khayree's gift for production.

mac malls production is low and uninspired, with beats that sound like party anthems, the lyrics dont tell anything, it feels more like a compilation than like a real album
