For a book, copyrighted in 1920, nearly 100 years ago, this work is, nonetheless, an excellent resource for the serious student of history. It is an exhaustive and scholarly study of early Illinois history, by an eminent historian whose career spanned some 30 years at the University of Illinois, before his untimely death in 1927.

Book has a nice vegetation map of Illinois before it was settled.

This is an extremely detailed history of the noted time period in Illinois. I would have preferred not such a detailed review, but I was able to get the perspective I wanted.

If you want detailed history, this is your book.
