Marianne Williamson has created this beautiful collection of prayers and combined them with the excellent Illuminated artwork of Claudia Karabaic Sargent.

I bought this book for my nephew who is battling cancer. There are very special prayers in this book; one was particulary applicable to his situation. I marked the page of the book containing the prayer most pertinent to him. He was extremely touched by the book and, I hope it brought him a measure of spirituality that he hadn't felt before. The book is very comforting and very beautiful. I am getting a copy for myself so he and I can discuss the prayers when he is up to it. I wanted him to have something to hang onto when times are rough. I think he has been helped by this book, and so have I.

This is an excellent gift for people who are very spiritual or people who have no spiritual underpinnings. The illustrations are enchanting, and the prayers are what I've always wanted to say to God, but was just never able to.

My family recently suffered the loss of two small children ... one to illness, the other to a tragic accident. This book contains so many uplifting and healing prayers; I bought one for everyone in the family who has been questioning 'why us?', including one for myself. This is a gem that will be truly cherished for a lifetime.

The prayers go right to the heart of many of our most pressing concerns. Each page stimulates deep reflection, and for me, heartfelt moments with God. The illuminations are not the gaudy variety but rather subtly complement the prayers, inviting additional reflection. Inspiring prayers in an inspiring format. Michael Pressley

One hundred pages of prayer-type meditations with heavenly illuminated decorations on each page. Handy size--tuck into your purse or nightstand. Makes a gorgeous and thoughtful gift. Striking to see, peaceful to read.

Marianne Williamson has created a wonderful book that, I believe, has universal application in our world. If you are religious, or not; whether you are Christian or other believer in God, there is wisdom and help for all within these pages. For example, a Christian could add the phrase "in the name of Jesus Christ," just before the "Amen" which ends each of the prayers. Other folks who also have a belief in a higher power, may appreciate the chance to direct these beautiful thoughts to "God". Also, I was reading some of the prayers to an agnostic friend when we were talking about meditation, and he agreed with me that if you read one of these prayers as simply a guide to focus on while meditating, sort of like you would a koan, it will help quiet your mind and help you feel peace.

For example, as I was meditating on the very shortest "prayer"--"Dear God, May the stars which fill the sky fill me. Amen."--I had lovely images about stars, light and enlightenment, which then lead me to remember a statement by Kant. Immanuel Kant said, "Two things awe me the most: the starry sky above me, and the moral law within me."

It is interesting to read through the pages of the book and enjoy the artwork, but my suggestion about how to best use Williamson's book is to choose one of the prayers (or you could think of it as an aphorism) which seems particularly relevant to you at that time, and then after reading it through a couple of times, close your eyes and focus on this thought, clearing your mind of other distractions.

Beautiful design, but little substance. The prayers seemed to be aimed at self-motivation, and not necessarily at seeking communication with God. I would instead recommend "The Prayers of Kierkegaard" for a deliberative, thought provoking, and moving set of prayers.
