very disappointing plot driven book,

This review is from: Illuminati - 2012: The Book The World Does Not Want You To Read (Paperback)
After reading many rave reviews about this book,I was extremely disappointed. This is the second worst book I have ever read. It had to be written by an amateur writer who was without an experienced editor's help to work on developing the plot and characters. Think "The DaVinci Code" without character development, scene development or plot development. There is need for a proofer for the many spelling and grammar errors. There is little or no description in scenes. Characters are only given superficial personalities. For example, instead of being fully described, women are said to be beautiful. That could mean a thousand different things. Character emotions are cliche. there is even a gratuitous sex scene. Character point of view switches in inappropriate places and disrupts the storyline. The plot is explained/told instead of being build with details. We aren't shown the story as part the story telling process. Everything is focused on nearly mindless action. The story is a cliche story of the anti-Christ and Armeggedon. The premise is that the antichrist was manufactured by genetic tampering by occult fanatics. There is no research into how this genetic tampering might happen. The story assumes that all big companies are evil. There is no attempt to be objective which makes the story come off as being overly sentimental and unbelievable. An important part of writing a strong story is making a story believable so that the reader can suspend disbelief. A story where the reader cannot suspend disbelief is poorly written. The scenes with occultists are laughable.A little research into occult rituals might reveal how actual occultists might behave or how rituals might actually be performed. Research into the occult and the meaning of 2012 in the occult would have made the story a whole lot more believable. I have read of the things the author mentions about 2012. He has an interesting idea but did not take the time necessary to make this a truly great story. His imagination took off without the necessary grounding to make a strong story. It's okay to be imaginative but make yourself credible to readers. I'd like to see the book re-written with attention given to the weak areas I mentioned. It has potential but needs work.

Wow - This is so poorly written I'm really surprised it was ever published. It reads like a middle-school student's English assignment. I'm disappointed Amazon is selling something so amateurish. The premise is interesting but the execution is a mess. One example - we are told the protagonist is a genius and good at anagrams - but it never dawns on him that his uncle's name is satan spelled backwards. And instead of trusting that the reader is going to notice this and not have to be told, the author reveals it in a lame mirror-smashing scene. The characters are one dimensional and cliche, you can see the "twist" coming from chapter 2, and the author struggles with basic sentence structure. And don't let the title fool you - there are just casual references to the Illuminati and 2012 - neither subject is explored in any depth. I rarely write reviews - and usually if I don't have anything nice to say, I keep quiet - I just don't want anyone else to waste their money like I did. BTW: I have a conspiracy theory - I suspect those who wrote the effusive 5-star reviews must be friends/family of the author.

This book stinks!,

I hate to disagree with the other reviewers, but this was one of the most poorly written and most poorly edited books I've ever read. I kept feeling it must have been written by someone in a beginning creative writing class. The extreme violence throughout the book had an almost surreal nature to it and certainly didn't induce the chilling reactions other violent stories do. The misspellings and grammatical errors were inexcusable. I was really disappointed in this book since the earlier reviews led me to believe it would be exciting and thrilling. It was anything but!

Another person commented that this reads like a 5th grade homework assignment. That might be a disservice to the 5th graders of the world. This book was authored by someone that seems to get his opinions and ideas from every crack pot conspiricy site on the web. The plot and characters show little imagination and no depth what so ever. I was expecting at any moment to be told that the governments of the world are all controlled by the Illuminati, the Masons, the Skull & Crossbones or any other group that came to the authors limited mind set. The author should, at the very least, do some research using ligitamate sources and maybe even try being just a bit accurate historicly. Seems as though he heard the term Illuminati, tried to tie it in with "2012" and let his sophmoric fantasies lead from there.

An original different intense mystery Read,
This review is from: Illuminati - 2012: The Book The World Does Not Want You To Read (Paperback)
This is a very different book and not something that i would usually read and i am not familiar with the subject but i must say that i did enjoy it. It is a guessing game until the end and i found it interesting to try and guess what would happen. It was not overboard in detail, some books you read get soooooo boring from over emphasing every little detail so this book described just enough detail to get a visual of the story. I finished the book in 2 days. A book has to catch my interest in the first chapter or the book finds a spot to collect dust and this book kept me intrigued enough to finish it. If you like a bit of mystery and science fiction then you should buy this book. Action packed throughout.

Finally...A Slice of Originality!,

This review is from: Illuminati - 2012: The Book The World Does Not Want You To Read (Paperback)
I have read many a book and I was getting to the point of thinking everyone had the same plot...same characters...same story. Not this one! Thrilling...Fascinating...and yes, even ORIGINAL; just a few of the words I can use to describe this book.As I read Illuminati 2012, I enjoyed each and every moment of it. It's a shame it wasn't longer, but the story was truly brilliant nonetheless. If there IS any truth to the fiction, you'd better get a flashlight and hide underneath the bed; I'll meet you there! Make sure you have plenty of time to spare if you start this book because I guarantee you won't get much done until you finish it! If like me, you enjoy a little mix of science fiction, mystery, and thriller - this is the book for you...

I LOVED this Book!,
This review is from: Illuminati - 2012: The Book The World Does Not Want You To Read (Paperback)
I recently read Angels & Demons before I got my hands on Illuminati 2012. I liked them both very much, but Illuminati 2012 has got to be the most original & creative story I have ever read so far! It was definitely a page-turner as the woman wrote on one of the reviews; I completely agree. I liked it so much that I asked my boyfriend to purchase it on Kindle; now we can show it to our friends as well!

Intellectually Satisfying,
This review is from: Illuminati - 2012: The Book The World Does Not Want You To Read (Paperback)
I am an Artist by trade and this book is definitely a 'Work of Art'. I was impressed by the intellectual and 'what if' nature of the story; I must say that it is a very smart Novel. The creation of it's highly original character had to have taken some serious thought.I don't want to spoil the ending, but the final revelation had me floored! You never saw it coming. I thouroughly enjoyed it and I am going to purchase another copy for my nephew. **By the way - the Cover Art is astounding!

You have got to read this Book! Incredible!,
This review is from: Illuminati - 2012: The Book The World Does Not Want You To Read (Paperback)
I have critiqued a few other works before and I have always been satisfied with the stories I read. Illuminati - 2012 BLEW MY MIND! This AMAZING and WELL WRITTEN story draws you in and makes you wonder exactly what the sub title states: 'Is this just fiction?'I ordered this book less than a week ago and started reading. I expected to be done in a week. Four hours later, I was in a state of SHOCK and AWE from a story that I was definitely not prepared for! The main character, Ethan Swan may just be the next big action hero, albeit in a surreal and dark world filled with intrigue and suspense. Each time I thought I had it figured out, another twist waited around the next bend. Thank you for such an original piece of work! I will be recommending this book to all my friends and family and will be awaiting more of the continuing saga of Ethan Swan... |
