Must Read !!!!!!!!!!!!,
This review is from: The Illuminati (Paperback)
It is clearly obvious that many of those who have posted a review of this book do not understand how the Illuminati operates or they want to keep people from buying this book to keep them in the dark. I encourage you to first do some research on the Illuminati (particularly in relation to 9/11)and then read this book. The book is mind blowing and highly suspensefully from beginning to end. Keep in mind it is a novel and does not clearly lay out information about the Illuminati it simply use brilliant characters to depict how the Illuminati operates. You must read this book if you want to know the truth and as you read it think about the world we live in and what is going on today. Keep in mind this book was originally published in the 70's or 80's and the story is set in the year 2020 10 years from now. The author is a true genius, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!

really quite bad.,
By Cipriano "www.bookpuddle.blogspot.com" (Planet Claire) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Illuminati (Paperback)
I picked up The Illuminati because I am very interested in eschatology or what is more commonly referred to as the "end times" and more specifically, my particular interest lies in a Biblical interpretation of the end of those times. And I love good fiction. And also I have read elsewhere about the existence of an international group of powerful elite policy-makers known as The Illuminati, so I wanted to learn more about them. But this book has seriously let me down on all three counts. Even the title is misleading because it does not really focus on any intelligent discussion of the Illuminati. Seriously, you would be hard-pressed to find a book built upon a more weakly constructed storyline, cookie-cutter characters, and all caving in upon itself with the worst dialogue that I think I have ever come across. If a wall of water 60 feet high were about to roll on top of two of Burkett's characters, I'm sure they would turn to each other, grasp hands, and say... "Quick, let's run!"Well, it's unfortunate, because he has chosen a very serious topic to write a poor book about. It will make many people take the real issues that are here MIS-represented less seriously. Burkett has written tremendous (and I think the very best) books about personal financial management, but The Illuminati proves that fiction is a genre wherein he ought not to have strayed.

Overexaggerated & unbelievable, but interesting.,

An interesting plot, quite easy to read although very religious(directly describing the anti-christ, heaven/hell etc. - the author isobviously a devout christian) and somewhat too exaggerated and farfetched at times. The author certainly has a vivid imagination though - it is amazing (although thoroughly unbelievable) all the worldshaking events that he described happening in just the space of the next 10 years. The characters are interesting and well thought out, although the author has an annoying habit of giving ALL of the characters names, however important or unimportant they may be. This results in the reader reading half the book before he realises which characters are important and which are not. This book is however worth reading if you're interested in plots, conspiricies etc. Disappointingly, however, it does not tell you very much about the Illuminati.

Cons: The title of the book wasn't really appropriate...The Illuminati is referred to as the Society throughout the whole book. There was one part in the middle where I wanted the book to pick back up, but it did within the next chapter.Pros: The storyline moved quickly with turns and enough going on to keep me interested. I could barely put it down and couldn't wait to pick it back up. I liked the characters and the settings. Burkett went wild with it, but made it believable. I really enjoyed reading this book and I plan on reading it again. If you like books that force you to pay attention and think, you'll really like this one. The government conspiracy was so interesting to read about. I hope I never see anything like this happening!

an enjoyable book,

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I did not read it to find out more about the "Illuminati" but to read a fiction thriller. What I came away with is a scenario of what could happen to freedom when we allow the media, government, social and political groups to shape our morals and our convictions. It is always said, "History repeats itself." and this book shows situations that could happen with society's moral decay so personally I found most of it believable. There were quite a few characters to keep up with but I didn't feel that it detracted from the story. It also is an example of a good fiction book can be written without curse words and sex scenes.

Fanatical right-wing cyberpunk. So badly written I still suspect that Burkett is really a leftist in disguise. Don't read this if you want inspired writing, but recommended if you want a laugh at the expense of the religious right

Not a very good book,
By cooperandre (Fullerton, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Illuminati (Paperback)
This book is filled with Christian paranoia, and stereotypical references to youth, gays, other religions and government.Scattered with fantastic events but hard to believe any of them, from futuristic computers that can tract everyone in the country to super dooms day weapons and corruption of government. I guess if I was paranoid that the government was planning to out law Christianity I would really like this book, but as it is I forced myself to finish this book, only because I don't like to start a book and not finish it.

A Haunting Book,
This review is from: The Illuminati (Paperback)
I read this book over ten years ago and it still haunts me to this day. At the time, debit cards were just coming into play; the story is even more current and believable now than it was then. Very well written and a gripping tale.

Why Do We Christians Write Such Trite Fiction?,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Illuminati (Paperback)
I have been extremely bothered by the Obama Pelosi ambitions, in a sense carrying out a plan that has often runs contrary to the will and sense of the people. I can't help but feel a sense of unease that there are greater powerplays being made behind the scenes. Burkett was a financial genious, so I picked the book up to see what he had to say about political conspiracy.Well, he hit a patch of quicksand called character development... and subsequently made Dan Brown look like a good writer! This book was so poorly written, and soooo one sided for the Christian cause, talk about victimization. Burkett wishes Christians could be martyred like this. Instead our churches are crumbling into dust, destined to be museums someday like those of Great Britain and France. And the sensitive issues he touched on...I don't believe in gay marriage but I also don't believe that if you declare marshall law, Castro street will flood the airwaves and carry flags with upsidedown crosses. And where the heck were any strong women characters in this book??? None, all subservient mice. And the bad guy...a really scary Arab who was the right hand man of Lucifer... yikes... 24 used that one up a long time ago. Burkett needs to stick to numbers and not words. Economic manifestos but not Left Behind- Book 8.

Great idea poorly executed,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Illuminati (Paperback)
The central idea is wonderful: there are powers controlling the powers that we see. (Someone controls the president who controls the FBI etc.) Unfortunately after the being well set up in the first 1/4 - 1/3 of the book, the story degenerates into a lot of wild-eyed religious hand-wringing. Which is ironic because after the first part sets up the reader to think about manipulation and control, the heavy-handed remainder comes across as propoganda and causes the reader to wonder who is controlling the author. I would love to see other authors take the basic idea and craft something really sinister. This one, however, I would skip.
