5.0 out of 5 stars Ethno Grooves and Latin Guitars!, November 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Illumination (Audio CD)
Although this CD may be confused by some people as a new flamenco release, it is better thought of as a instrumental world fusion album with a whole lot of Spanish guitar thrown in. The super fast guitar harmonies on "La Corrida" and "Prajapati" are a impressive to say the least. The acoustic guitars are surrounded by a swirl of sitars, tablas, violins, flutes and the like with no sampling (many guest musicians are credited throughout the disc).

Middle Eastern, Indian, and South American melodic contours blend nicely with a more ethno-trance vibe. The musicianship is top notch and the use of some unpredictable harmonic choices makes this recording a great listening experience! The CD features almost an hour of HDCD quality music and the packaging is pretty cool too.

Quite different from their former release "Misterioso", no one can say Incendio keeps making the same sounding albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Illumination, August 25, 2002

This band (in my opinion) is one of the best out there today. Jim's classical training and Middle Eastern influence coupled with JP & Lisa's Flamenco style have created a dynamic sound who's rhythm gets into your soul. The pure amount of passion that they pour into their music shows.

Track #7, Sophie, is my personal favorite. The melodies make my heart light from cares and heavy with emotions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fan of their live shows loves new CD by Incendio, July 22, 2002

Upon seeing Incendio only by accident last year at the La Palapa Del Mar Restaurant in Long Beach, California, I was immediately blown away by their technical skill playing Flamenco guitar during an acoustic set. Words cannot capture the brilliance of Flamenco masters Stubblefield and Durand during a live performance. This summer when they returned to the La Palapa for an every other Thursday schedule of shows, I took the oppertunity to see them and bought their new album Illumination. The album is simply wonderful. It certainly deserves five stars. It is the kind of album you want to share with your music loving friends and family. I only hope that this group will continue to come to Long Beach and continue to produce this kind of exciting new music. I have the feeling that the days of seeing this ultra tight little band in smaller venues are numbered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five stars isn't enough, April 1, 2004

My first exposure to this band was at a live event, and I've been a walking, talking ad campain ever since. I am amazed at the number of emotions that the music is able to rip from my somewhat jaded soul. From the absolutely heart-rending Sophia to feelings somewhat like unrequited love in Dhyana. From the frenetic hysteria of songs like El Palenque and Delirium to the cool Sunday morning calm of Awakenings and Garden of Stone. The dreamy self-awareness that unveils itself during pieces like Illumination and El Celta are a perfect counterpoint to La Corrida and Rambla Pacifica which just make me happy to be alive and able to appreciate all of the talent these folks exhibit.

Songs like Luna, Duelo a la Muerte, and Loretana make me homesick for Andalusia Spain and I've never even been there. Prajapati and Black Opal can effectively transport me to exotic places without ever leaving my chair. And songs like Algeria feel like waking to long awaited sunshine after a long rainy storm. If you only buy one album, you'll soon be disappointed that you didn't get them all. My descriptions cover three of the CD that I own not just Iluumination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great One from Jim & Incendio, November 7, 2001
This review is from: Illumination (Audio CD)
This CD is amazing, The rhythms in Illumination are great and the Guitar work is awesome. Stubblefield, along with his band Incendio create music that flows through your soul and can take you to another world. The talent in this group is amazing. Knowing the band personally makes it even better for me, so if you have a chance, go see them live, you won't regret it. I also recommend getting all of Jim's CD's They're pretty amazing.

i know these guys personally. they are the most talented and wonderful people you will ever meet. When you see them play, you want to jump out of your seat and start dancing. And whats great too, is that they improv a lot of the songs as they are playing them, so you always get something new to the song. This and their previous record are just amazing. Great work guys. And just a shout out to J.P (the guitarist), rock on

What fantastic talent, they write their own music. It is so wonderful, beautiful, lively. Just puts you into the BEST mood. Last night at their live performance a bunch of little girls couldn't resist the Latin beat and they danced for hours. It was great. Buy the CD, you won't be sorry! But you will like it so much that you might wear it out.
