Book Description

June 1, 2005
This book presents a graphic portrayal of American soldiers and marines in Vietnam. Collectively, the stories present a captivating before, during and after picture of the men who fought. The authors' styles and recollections complement each other to capture the tragedy, humor and perspective of the young men in that controversial conflict.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revisiting the combat reality of Vietnam, July 1, 2009

This review is from: Illumination Rounds (Paperback)
"Illumination Rounds" is graced with a Foreword by Colonel Ed Taylor, USA retired. Taylor is imminently qualified for the task: Three Silver Star Medals for Valor, three Bronze Star Medals for Valor, a Purple Heart, a Legion of Merit, several degrees, and on and on. Taylor lauds the work of the two enlisted servicemen, Peter Guinta of the US Marine Corps and Randy Cribbs of the US Army. Their series of short stories offer personal experiences acquired during one of the most dark and painful eras in American Military history. The book depicts various combat events and the gives an idea of the aftermath that took place in civilian life. Many courageous men came home from Vietnam to a thankless nation. In my judgment, Peter Guinta's first offering, "One Tree in the Forest," is especially important, alone it is worth the price of the book. Some of the stories are painful, others poignant, some are darkly humorous, but they all are warm, and sometimes flame with passion. Highly recommended.
