Incredible,
This review is from: Illusion of Democracy (Audio CD)
This album is simply amazing, I was blown away by the virtuosity
of the entire band. The band fuses the best elements of Metal/Hardcore and Prog-rock. They definately have a signature sound. The guitarist is a genuis, I especially enjoyed his interaction with the drummer. If you are tired of traditional metal acts, pick up a copy of this album todaY. You will not be dissapointed.

thats all that has to be said really...I listen to 100s of bands in this genre and this is definitely one of the most incredible cds Ive ever heard. I am pretty picky with bands based on musicianship, and this band is simply amazing in many ways. If you like metalcore/hardcore, BUY THIS CD! you will not be disappointed.

Phenomenal!,

Alright I just picked this record up today from a friends recomendation. Let me just say that this album is amazing. Some of the most incredible guitar playing I have ever heard from any hard/metalcore band. The singer puts out some vicious brutal low screams. Has some off the craziest off-beat breakdowns that just make me want to throw down hard.

Walks a fine line,

I was reading the magazine "Anvil" and noticed a perfect 10/10 rating for this CD. The reviewer raved about the destructive force of this CD and even made a reference comparing this band to the mighty Slayer. Of course because of this ringing endorsement I picked it up. It is a good CD but I'm wondering if the reviewer for "Anvil" magazine only listened to the first track wich is full on balls out. However some of the other songs incorporate a more melodic vocal style, with a much softer feel to the tracks in question. That being said the musicianship is outstanding and the vocals are of top quality...a very nice overall impressive debut. This CD is not for someone looking for a full on, no let up, peel the skin from your face CD...and it doesn't even come close to approaching Slayer.

I had the oppurtunity to go and see these guys and let me say that this band has a very bright future if they continue on the road they're on. This album is different from any other metalcore album I have listened to. There are sections that sound like it came out of something the mars volta would do. This in no way hinders the heaviness of the album. There are brutal breakdowns and incredible guitar shredding that left the crowd at the show I went to with mouths agape. Vincent's drumming is probably the best I have heard, only matched by Unearth's drummer Mike Justain.Ash has a pretty decent range in the pipes add politically conscious lyrics and you have a recipe for great music. So go pick this up and if you have an opportunity to go see this guys: do! They put on a great show and also be able to see how Tosin tears it up on the guitar.

This is the best new album I've heard in a long time.,
This review is from: Illusion of Democracy (Audio CD)
These guys are amazing. They bring something fresh and new to the scene that it has been lacking for a long time.
Their singer is a real power house in terms of both his thoughts and delivery... The guitarist is none other than a young Hendrix... The bassist is a straight gangster. Their drummer is an utter technical genius. If I was an Indian god I would be giving them about 6 thumbs up. Buy this album!!!! YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY

I checked this out because I had read that this was Tosin Abasi's band before Animals As Leaders. I imagine a lot of people did the same. If you're crazy about AAL, but haven't checked this out yet, you really should cause Reflux was a great band. The playing is incredible and the lyrics are discernible and actually mean something. The fact that they had something to say was very refreshing. It was like thinking man's metalcore. One important thing to keep in mind is that this doesn't sound that much like AAL. Sure, some of the guitar techniques and phrasing will catch your ear, but the production, the arrangements, and the obvious fact that there is a vocalist make this a completely different beast. Anyway, if you like high-performance playing and metalcore, check this one out.

Political Experimental Metalcore,

Reflux is an interesting band to be sure; with an odd and at times patience-consuming mixture of different metal styles coupled with a very anti-establishment lyrical approach which I found very interesting.
Take the chaotic changes and time signature shenanigans of Dillinger Escape Plan, add ferocious death metal vocals and off-the-rails shred style guitar playing with arpeggios to spare, and your've got Reflux. There are a few moments where it doesn't really "work" on this album, which can be said about almost any metal band willing to experiment and write and perform challenging material, but some songs are just full of abrasive, heavy power and nihilistic anti-government polemic. I would recommend this to any fan of experimental music or music as a political tool. Great guitar player.

Metalcore at its finest.,
By \m/ x core "Ray" (Orlando, Florida) - See all my reviews

This album stretches the limits of metalcore. There are amazing solos on this album from guitar wizard Tosin Abassi. The bassist learned under one of the finest musicians in the world, Regi Wooten. The drummer and singer are equally as impressive. I have seen them live several times and personally I think there are better live using samples from the chapelle show, "I've learned something today, white people can dance if you play what they like, electric guitar!" Two songs you must check out are Above the Pyramid and the eye and Single File to Bliss.
